In 2005, the Supreme Court decision in Kelo v. New London upheld the city’s use of eminent domain to seize property from private owners and hand it over to a developer who promised more than 3,000 new jobs and $1.2 million in tax revenue. Not only has the city’s project failed with the 91 acre site sitting empty and overgrown with weeds, but New London has now designated the site as a dump for vegetation following Hurricane Irene. Arrogant politicians bully the people they’re supposed to be serving and end up falling flat on their stupid faces. Good.

This a very sad story when the SCOTUS is seen to be in bed with those with a political agenda. What next, Obamacare whitewashed and stuffed down our throats by SCOTUS as they did with the EPA and Mass....One hopes that these supposedly eminently qualified and loyal followers of the constitution realize the short fuse they are now holding....
Plus you add the 2 progressive judicial idiots that Obama appointed, they will eff things up for the next 3 decades. Activist judges deserve no place in our courts, let alone the highest court of the land.
This is just another typical govt plan gone a stray. Why not go after the "developer" that made all the outlandish promises to the city? The SC ruled on this and it was one of the worst rulings ever to come from there.
When the boyhood home of David Sutter was attempted to be taken over by the city where he was raised, boy did the feds move in a hurry to protect it from the ruling.
Different rules and regulations for the majority and exceptions for the miniority, just like a 3rd world banana republic.

Well this started in 2000, according to the story, when Bubba had the watch, but 2005 -- I know the president can't tell the SC what to do, but for once, I think Bush ought to take a share of the blame here. More forceful denunciation of the situation? Dunno. This is really an atrocity and needs to be reversed.
How is this on Bush? Wouldn't be on the Mayor of New London, or perhaps the Governer of Connecticut? Bush wasn't involved in the transaction was he?
So, it is now constitutional to steal property from private citizens for no particular reason and perfectly okay to NOT GIVE IT BACK when the expected benefit doesn't happen.
Except that they tore down all the houses that used to be there, so giving back the property will do no good.
