• I'm watching Hannity. The locals are claiming this is state land and not even BLM land.

• What is it with the leftist? Challenge those who wish to be left alone. Ruby Ridge and Waco all over again. This is a states right issue and an over aggressive, very intrusive federal government.

  • It should be a state issue, but since the feds own soooooo much of the land out west, a large majority of it actually, it is a federal issue. Washington's influence needs to be reduced by about 80% across the board & the citizens need to be left alone. That's just for starters, & then maybe America can get back to being America.

    • We need to get rid of the occupier first, then find a Constitutional Conservative to replace him. Unfortunately, the real CCs are so far down the line that nobody but their mother recognizes them.

      • Rand Paul actually got a great reception at Cal State Berkeley. Perhaps the granola crowd is waking up to the fact the Demotards aren't all that.

• I have a couple of questions. It says his family has been ranching the land since 1870. Was it Federal land then? If not, when did the Feds decide it was theirs and start charging a fee for it? I wouldn't know where to start to research the answers to that.

  And, it's going to cost three million dollars to round up 908 head of cattle? Must be a government project. That's over three thousand dollars a head. I'll come out and do it for two thousand.

  • All of land that became Nevada was Federal lands after the US Government paid Mexico $15 Million for it in 1848. Terms of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. All lands in Nevada would've been issued as a land allotment/purchase from the Federal Government.

    • I did a little research. They have two parcels of land, total of 160 acres. The parcel just north is theirs as well. Notice that everything to the east is federal lands. Even their driveway to the house is on federal lands.

• Remember the tyranny people have been warning us about? Well, here's what it looks like folks, We are going to throw you off your own land because some environmental extremists donated heavily to Quagmire and his buddies campaigns.

  • First off, I agree that this is pretty over-the-top and seems like it's intended as an intimidating display for all. However, read all the way to the end:

    "The BLM designated 186,909 acres of the Gold Butte off-limits for the “critical desert tortoise” population in 1998. Bundy had already lost his grazing permit five years earlier for refusing to pay fees for the land..."

    So 1, it aint his land, and 2, the business about the desert tortoise habitat is irrelevant, since he stopped paying the fees 5 years prior to that. So the Fed may indeed be the heavy here, but Bundy isn't the most innocent of bystanders either.

    • Bundy's family has been farming that land since 1870's, don't you think they should have been grandfathered in? I'm sure they didn't pay to use that land before BLM took it over. In fact, it was STATE land first, then the Fed took it away!

• AlGore has been warning us about the dangers of cow farts. It sounds like the dorks at BLM believed it.

  The Feds should really wear their original brown shirts and swastika arm bands.

  He Should've "invested" $100,000.00 with DirtyHarry, or his son, or his grand-daughter. Then he could've used the entire State to graze cattle at no cost.

• I've been following this story for a while. Two things: one, the notion that the land is needed to save desert tortoises is complete utter bullshit. Like so many causes within the federal government, the desert tortoise has a bureaucratic constituency dependent on the damn thing being labled "endangered" and the money spent "protecting" it is the only real goal at this point - there are hundreds of thousands of tortoises spread across the West and that's not even counting the tame ones in people's backyards; and two, the rancher brought most of this on himself by refusing to pay his grazing fees - it's not his land as he loves to imply, it's federally owned land for which he was supposed to pay a fee, and when he didn't the feds decided to do something else with the land.
