Latest sign of the apocalypse. A former member of SEAL Team 6 took hormones, became a transgendered woman, and has now written a memoir titled Warrior Princess. His new name is Kristin… possibly because “She-Ra” was restricted by trademark issues.

  • Special K, the primary sex characteristics are of course controlled by chromosomes, as in twin boys being both XY and not XX. These boys are both XY since they are identical. However, if one male's testosterone gets restricted in utero, due to either having a shared placenta (not that unusual) or having their own, but inferior placenta, when the testes are activated to produce testosterone, one male gets a lot less, thus not becoming traditional masculine as associated with maleness, but remains a male child, not a female, but one which more resembles characteristics of an XX, but still a XY. Epigenetics means environment controlling the expression of genes, not changing DNA and sex type. Therefore you have a biological male who feels they are a female, due to minimum testosterone, because of epigenectics. Remember females create testosterone as well, but not via testes since they lack them. Enjoy this video about twins and it addresses this situation.

  • Hey... this is a question that came up in my house, that had me, my husband, our daughter and her boyfriend debating for over an hour the other night. (That's a long debate in our house!) Here is the situation:

    There is a set of identical twins, who were born male. One had a gender change, and now is a female (true story). But they are identical twins - right? Split from the same egg.

    So, the *official* PC concept is that gender identity issues are "medical" issues, not psychological, right? In other words, it's OFFENSIVE to say that these people are crazy, right? So, how is this possible? How could half of the egg have been assigned the correct gender, but the other half of the same egg been assigned the wrong gender? This kind of throws the whole concept into the air, doesn't it? (Sort of like: how can gay people be "born that way" if both halves of an identical twin set are not gay... but that's another debate).

    So, if gender-confusion is a psychological disorder, should insurance policies be paying for reassignment surgery? If insurance doesn't pay for boob jobs and facelifts, why should it pay for that? I doubt there is any woman who has a boob job or facelift that couldn't argue that it is to make them feel happier or better about themselves. The reason that gender reassignment is covered (when it is covered) is because it's not an "elective" surgery. Supposedly it's because the person was born wrong, NOT because the person is crazy and thinks they are something they are not.

    See where the dilemma is? I don't want to start a whole conversation about this here, but it is definitely something to ponder over, isn't it? LOL

    • No matter what surgery, drugs, etc, this guy's DNA will always be male. Period. I have some real doubts about the "born that way" theory and the question who posed about twins surely shows some defects in that theory.

    • Relatedly, wait until GLAAD and NOW go to war if a "gay gene" is discovered and prospective parents begin to abort gay babies.

      • Exactly. Most gay babies will be born from truly practicing Christian/Conservative parents. That is something that a lot of these people don't want to hear that when I mention it. They bash conservatives and christians but they need people who believe in the sanctity of life even through catastrophic, criminal or "unwanted" circumstances if they want to not be exterminated from the phase of the Planet. Trust me people that are into abortion WILL abort babies due to them being gay much more rapidly than they would under other circumstances.

    • Personally I don't think insurance should pay for anything other than preventative medicine and serious medical problems. Part of the reason Medicare costs are skyrocketing is taxpayers are paying for tons of stuff that have nothing to do with keeping a person healthy or alive, stuff private insurance companies will not pay for since it is unnecessary.

      • I am on medicare. What coverage is provided that is not covered by other insurances? I can barely get my meds, etc covered. I don't know of anyone that gets any special coverage from Medicare. I have a friend who has a bleed somewhere in his gut. Took a month to get approval from Medicare to cover the cost of one of those cameras you swallow, so they can find the source of the bleed.
        As far as coverage for "gender reassignment" it varies from plan to plan. Most plans DO NOT cover it, since insurance is mostly designed to cover stuff after its already happened. Only recently ( last 25 years or so) have insurance companies started covering preventive care, because the policyholder (usually an employer) figured out it was cheaper to prevent problems that try to fix them after the fact.

          • As Karmaa suggests, they capture the camera on the other end, clean it and get the images from there. I think they are digital, so no actual film. Ew. But really good for identifying a source of a GI bleed. WHen they doscovered he must HAVE a bleed, his hemoglobin was 6. Normal for a male is 14-16.

        • Well, I didn't say it was covered under Medicare, myself - however it is increasingly being covered by insurance policies. But your point is kind of right in line with what I was saying -why should anyone be forced to pay for an elective surgery for anyone else? The reassignment surgery has been sold to us as "medically necessary" because the person was born in the wrong body.

          My point is - how can 1/2 of a person be born in the wrong body, but the other half born in the right body? Red brought up some good points about organic hormone restriction, but until that is proven to be an indisputable fact, I'm not buying it.

          Oh, and there are a WHOLE lot of insurance plans that cover it now, and starting late last year, if I recall correctly, San Fran (of course) decided to pay for it for ALL UNINSURED PEOPLE as well. Anyone who wants one - free genitalia chopping for everyone - wooohooo!

          Read this: "Healthy San Francisco was discriminating against transgender people by denying them medically necessary health care," Wiener said. They say that because women (with CANCER!!!) can get hysterectomies, women who want to be men should be able to as well. But see the quote? Calling elective reassignment surgery "medically necessary".

          • I an on mediCARE. Medicaid doesn't cover anything. Except for kids. They do fairly well there. THe issue is not many doctors accept medicaid because the reimbursement is so low. Medicare is starting to run into the same problems in that regard.

      • I see it as it should be like auto insurance. Only the catastrophic stuff should be covered and the routine stuff left to the free market. Prices would then fall just like most oil changes are cheap but a new front end is costly after an accident.

        • Somebody wrote a great column a few years ago (not me this time) about the difference between healthcare polluted with government restrictions/requirements and healthcare without. For an example of healthcare without government interference they used laser surgery on eyes. Laser surgery on eyes happened so fast the government didn't have time to interfere and they didn't have time to start requiring it be covered by health insurance. Consequently the free market went to work and made it better and better and cheaper and cheaper. I see ads now for Lasik offering the surgery for $500 per eye.

          • The same was true about chiropractic care years ago. Insurance companies would not cover it, the gooberment didn't even recognize it as legitimate medical care. The costs were reasonable, far less than pills or surgury, and people got good treatment.

            Now insurance companies cover it, you even see ambulance chasing chiropractors working with ambulance chasing lawyers, and Medicare covers it and the costs have gone through the roof. I have been going to the same bone cruncher for years and pay $45.00 for a treatment, but I pay cash every time. He told me flat out if I had insurance, or was covered under Medicare, he would be charging over $100 for the same treatment because of all the paperwork involved and the extra secretary he has to keep up with it.

          • I know is another subject, but I did see that as well and it made perfect sense. He was trying to make the case that rich people are all in all beta testers risking their lives to try new things that are first extremely expensive but as things improve and are done faster and smaller and less expensive it eventually does become available to the rest of the world even if it means having to work a bit more to get it.

            Yesterday I saw a show about the Concorde. I do remember it going offline so to speak several years ago, but I really didn't care that much. However now that I saw that I realize that indeed what a lot of the people in the documentary said was true (even Maya Angelou said it), that this technology being essentially scrapped feels as if humanity was going backwards instead of forward. It may seem kind of DRAMATIC but the point is true. Supersonic travel is something that probably would have taken a bit more time before MOST people (even if had to work extra hard) were able to afford to do, however by scrapping the whole thing we will never know how long it would have taken. Many normal joes even for the fun of it were saving their money and working hard to be able to afford it so it wasn't JUST the rich and famous and business people. It would have been cool to have a goal of getting in a Concorde somewhere down the line, and the opportunity is no longer there. Getting to Europe in three hours from New York or Washington damn! That is pretty amazing. It made me think of others things (like cures for diseases like cancers) that we are probably not enjoying right now because it is not convenient or it is expensive or someone out there just doesn't want to be bothered.

            Like I said off topic and nothing to do with insurance and all the things you were saying but that is what I thought when I read about the free market and how it can make things cheaper and better when the government gets the hell out of the way.

        • I agree. If someone needs bypass surgery, fine. But do we really need to be paying for Viagra for some 70 year old man? If a woman wants birth control go for it, as long as she pays for it. If I'm the one poking fun at her I'll even pay for it. But if I ain't the pokee why should I have to pay for something I ain't getting?

          I could write a two page list of things I don't think the taxpayer or Medicare should be paying for, and probably piss off a few people here while I was at it. The point is if we are ever going to see the costs for medical insurance and care go down people have to realize there are a lot of things they could do without, or pay for it out of their own pockets.

  • There are pictures of her in her knew persona. Not bad. Nor gorgeous, but not bad, especially when you look at what they had to work with. His prechange name was Chris, so Kristin is not that far off the mark. To get this type of treatment, then surgery takes a long time and several psychological evaluations. Was the military paying for that before hs retirement?

  • I am almost speechless, but as an Army puke, I would say if it had to happen, better a squid than an Army or Marine soldier.

    • Hey now, watch what you say gravel pounder! There have been quite a few Army Special Forces personnel who have "came out" since don't ask, don't tell went out the window. (teehee)

  • Question: I thought all members of SEAL Team 6 were dead on different and strange circumstances. It seems that I read that incorrectly so there were a few that survived or is this a new person or what?

    Okay well as far as him being a her now... I mean... I don't know. Wow...
