• This is the elite viewpoint:

  There are two kinds of people in the world. Homo Sapiens Causus and Homo Sapiens Effectus.

  The latter consist of the great masses of the unwashed. We are underevolved troglodytes who waft around the world incapable of an original thought or self-determined action. We are entirely at effect point of radio talk show hosts, alcoholic parents, pictures of guns, conservative speakers at graduations, etc.

  Homo Sapiens Causus consists of a relatively small number of people who are a higher form of life. They are not subject to any of the aforesaid influences. Therefore, it their destiny and responsibility, as such higher forms of life, to take over our lives and run them for us. It's for our and the world's own good.

  Once you have that viewpoint, there is no difference between the perpetrators of the Charlie Hebdo attack and Joe Blow hanging out in the Lexington, KY outskirts waiting for hunting season so he can feed his family over the winter. Joe Blow is just one Rush Limbaugh diatribe away from doing the same thing, most likely at an abortion clinic.
