I know this is a very sensitive subject to a lot of people and they are very passionate in their beliefs. A lot of you actually believe that a woman that makes the decision to end a pregnancy (for whatever reason she may have) is a murderer, even if they don't know her circumstances or the health issues involved, etc. That is the judging that I am talking about.
"Sidekick" - I didn't realize you were the grammar police. I am just sharing my thoughts and letting you know why there are a lot of people that want to protect the right of the mother to make a decision that affects her body, her health, and her life. Your lack of respect and civility when someone disagrees with you says a lot about your personality. I don't know if you have ever been told you are condescending. If you haven't already - I'm sure you will be by some woman (or man) who won't put up with your ego. Or maybe you save this attitude for when you can sit behind a computer screen and not have to speak your mind to someone face to face. I guess because you are on a forum of like-minded people that all "agree" with you - it can be pretty upsetting for a "troll" to come along and actually have the nerve to disagree, huh?
When I say everyone is protected under the law, I mean that the courts have to take into consideration the rights of the woman and cannot REMOVE those rights - even if 50% of the population thinks that a "person" is born the minute a sperm goes inside an egg.
I love it when men lecture women on abortion, especially with such condescension. If Sidekick could get pregnant -from lack of responsibility, or one momentary lapse of judgment, accident, or birth control malfunction - or heaven forbid in the case of rape - he would have a lot more compassion for the women he implies are "murderers" and wouldn't be so anxious to threaten them with criminal prosecution.
It's a lot different when it is somone else that has to be responsible for carrying a child, delivering that child and deciding whether to keep it and be financially, spiritually, and morally responsible for that "person" for many, many years. Especially if there are extenuating circumstances like your health or the health of the child.
I'm guessing that if men could get pregnant, many would carry that baby to term NO MATTER WHAT because of their beliefs (just as many women do) - but they WOULD NOT tell other men what to do! Because MEN are capable of making hard decisions like that and you can bet if they made that decision it would be for a GOOD reason- not like all these women that just take abortion so lightly. Liberals defend abortion.
Liberals defend a woman's right to make that decision based on her unique circumstances. Criminalizing abortion turns women who have to make hard choices into criminals. A woman that is raped and doesn't want to carry her rapist baby should not be the one to go to jail. The rapist should. No one likes abortion and we all agree we should do as much as we can to prevent abortions. Liberals don't want a situation to arise where every pregnancy is monitored and if a woman has a miscarriage there is an investigation to see if a criminal act was committed or hold the mother responsible if she loses her child. (That is already happening in some states). The new Republican platform adopted at the RNC is no exceptions to abortion -EVEN IN THE CASE OF SAVING THE MOTHER'S LIFE. That is extreme.

I'm not insinuating anything. In this country every person is protected and has rights and that includes the mother. You cannot force someone to bear a child if they don't want to. Just like you cannot "force" your beliefs on others. You think life and a soul begins at conception - others don't. I most certainly do not like abortion, but I know there are situations that would warrant that decision being made between a woman and her doctor without some law taking away that choice. I also agree that we should do everything we can to support women and give them options like adoption. And how do you know 98% of abortions are convenience? Does the government keep record? These decisions are personal and no one else's business except the family and the doctor. Unlike you, who must have a very low opinion of women to think that they take this decision lightly and probably don't know what they are doing, I think the woman is the most qualified to make that decision. Not you, or anyone else that thinks they know what is best for somoene else. You think life begins when the sperm hits the egg - other people disagree. You have no right to force your beliefs on others and no one is forcing you to have an abortion if you don't believe it is right. Us "liberals" (said like a dirty word) bring up extreme situations because the law is meant to protect everyone's rights - even the minority of women that have to make this choice in an extreme situation. And the baby of a rapist isn't dirty - but the mother was an innocent victim and if she doesn't want to have her rapists baby - that is her right. 34 states give the rapist parental rights. So the victim not only gets raped but has to share her child with the person that raped her. Limiting abortions is fine. Reversing Roe v. Wade would have the terrible unintended consequence of monitoring, punishing, and even imprisoning women. Liberals are realist. We think of policies in the terms of their effect also. For those that bring up God and the Bible on this issue, there are no direct guidance or laws given on abortion. Even the passage you quoted is not intended as a statement about abortion, so any conclusions drawn from them represent your opinion rather than Biblical evidence. There is this verse that comes close and it treats the death of a fetus with less severity than that of a person - and the payment mentioned is only because of the loss of labor that a lost child represented in that time. "And if men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him; and he shall pay as the judges decide. "But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, (NAS, Exodus 21:22-24). Jesus doesn't even teach an eye for an eye as in this Old Testiment verse and made no mention of abortion whatsoever. He did say this to all you that hold a very self-righteous stand on this issue and consider it over many other important issues, "Then [Jesus] told this story to some who boasted of their virtue and scorned everyone else: "Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a proud, self-righteous Pharisee, and the other a cheating tax collector. The proud Pharisee 'prayed' this prayer: 'Thank God, I am not a sinner like everyone else, especially like that tax collector over there! For I never cheat, I don't commit adultery, I go without food twice a week, and I give to God a tenth of everything I earn.' Further, Jesus told us to eliminate the sins in our own lives rather than passing judgment or looking down on others. For if we judge other people harshly, we will, in turn, be judged harshly by God:
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (NIV, Matthew 7:1-2)
I know this is a sensitive subject, but please do not imply that liberals are uncaring for children because we think that abortions should be rare but legal. That judgment would be wrong. Only a few fringe liberals think of abortion as a means of birth control. The rest are defending the right of the mother to be the one making any decisions about her body and her health and her family.

And yet you are denying the right of a person to life from the get-go. When do our rights begin? When our last toe slips out of the womb and we can no longer be partially-birth aborted? Would do "rights" matter if a person doesn't have a right to life? The unborn child basically has no "rights" in our country.
I'm not asking for abortion to be forbidden because I believe the soul is implanted at conception. I want abortion to be forbidden because it is a biological fact that human life begins at conception. As soon as the egg meets the sperm, a new child is formed with his or her own genetic makeup. Non-believers can know abortion is wrong from the natural law alone. The appeal to "her body" alone is dishonest and irrelevant at such a point.

I understand the consistency of no exceptions. 1) Women have abuse d the "for the health and well being of the Mom." And if you believe that life begins at conception, then ANY abortion is murder. I will say that I would have an abortion if I had a childwith a severe birth defect that would make them non viabe. (anencephaly, micrceohaly, etc.) But thogh I was offered an amnio and screening for down's with my last child, i declined. because the test itself presents a small risk of miscarraige, and I wans't going to intervene if he had downs's anyway. But I understand the opther side of the coin. To expect a woman to be raped, then insist she deliver the child is rough. Even with a planned adoption, to endure pregnacy resulting frm such a viscious and unwarranted attack would strech the mental state of anyone!

I am basing my opinion on ongoing experience with liberals, and a number of reports and tapes and pics validating that they are bleeding hearts.
