Srsly, if you read the story, the guy effed up big time by not following legal procedure which would have terminated his parental rights & responsibilities. Let's look at this from a good conservative perspective: this is actually good, because it affirms parental responsibility which does not disappear without action by the courts.
Seems like a dumb law though. Doctor uses the baster, no child support. Lesbian uses the baster, the man pays child support. That's a dumb law.
Paper trail for proof. The burden is (and should be, I think) on the man to prove his responsibility for the chils has been terminated.
But, they presented him with a contract absolving him of responsibility. The point the state used was no doctor, no donation.
Keeping the doctor, who has paid for his state monopoly on "medical" procedures, in the loop with some money. Licenses to do business are basically protection rackets.
But in some cases, are appropriate. I have read of a number of non licensed "doctors" doing horrific things to patients who were fat dumb and happy thinking the Doc was the real thing!

I've bought countless items on Craig's List. When I moved I used to sell my furniture on CL and buy replacement stuff from CL in the new city.
I will admit though, I don't think advertising for sperm on Craig's List is a good idea, but then, I have my own supply, so it's not an issue for me.
Craigslist IS a scammer's paradise, but very few scammers are good enough to get past my radar. When I was in the Sacramento area, I had really good luck with CL. Since coming to Bakersfield for the winter, nothing but scammers.

Point. Personally, I don't think laws have caught up with the technology of conception. Here is where I feel like government interference is called for, to write laws protecting the parties from this type of abuse. THere was recently reported a family who did a genealogy DNA test for family history, and found that their in vitro child was actually fathered by some clod at the clinic, who apparently substituted his DNA for a number of the children conceived there. If that were found by accident, would the father who raised her have no say is her medical or legal affairs, since he is not her biologic father? COuld the other guy get some say because he is? Its all crazy~

You have no idea what the future is going to hold, and if you do a sperm donation by any means other than anonymous to a sperm bank, you can expect either the state to get you to pay for it when the mother goes on welfare, or, if she loses her job, she might just decide to sue you for support.
No good deed goes unpunished, and messing with nature isn't a good idea. If someone can't get pregnant with their partner, there might be a good reason for it, and they should consider adoption. It's not like there aren't enough kids out there that need parents.
Agreed. For personal and philosophical reasons I don't agree with children being brought up in homosexual and lesbian homes. There are many kids that do live through it very well but there is many evidence that many do not. All in all and regardless of my personal beliefs, I agree that it is best to just adopt and at least give a chance to a child that has no parents at all in this situation. If the pair really does want to care for a child they need to take full responsibility. Having the option that they can sue the Father for support will always be at the back of their minds no matter what they tell the man. He probably thought he was acting out of love, but that love bite him and I am sure he regrets it and the one that in the end is going to have all the shame is the little kid when he or she finds out what happened.
These days, with the courts so screwed up, there are guys paying child support for kids that are not theirs, just because they treated the child well while in a relationship with the kid's mom.
I went through that for a year after I divorced my ex. She had a daughter from a previous marriage, and because I took responsibility and helped raise her, I had to pay for their healthcare for 1 year after the divorce, also they got to live in my house while I lived in a rental. I also paid for the exes car insurance and registration.
You must have had my lawyer. She was cute, big blue eyes with dark hair (I've always liked that), and I dated her for a while, and she kept me out of jail a couple times when I was caught driving without a license, but when it came to my divorce I got rolled bigtime. Spent the next ten years buying back the house I thought I already owned.
You know is interesting... My Father was an evil man. He really messed my Mom up... sold the house with a false signature... paid virtually nothing for child support. He was abusive mentally and emotionally even after the divorce. Other men who are good men get hosed and essentially punished. Not 100% I am sure but that is something I have noticed. One could ask G-D why must that be? All I could say is that in my situation my Father is still relatively young and he may die soon because of a horrible disease that he contracted within five years of the divorce. He has been living in pain for a long time. Cannot say for sure that he had five years to stop the evil where it could have helped my Mom and I the most (after that we were able to manage without him just fine thanks be to Christ that we survived) and when he did not change his ways he got sick. Cannot say that even though it took too long he was able to change and at least atone somewhat for what he has done and that was "karma"... all I can say is that in the end even though we get hosed by life and the enemy it is far better to be a good G-d fearing person than not. Being racked by a disease for years aint good... essentially facing end of life with a rancorous woman aint good. So all you good men out there... keep at it... in the end it is worth it. G-d bless you. Side note: I have forgiven my Father.... I dont want any of that. Know what I mean? Being good may not seem to pay off... well I say it does. I have to believe that G-d knows what He is doing and He is making me a person worthy of His work and Will.
Yeah, I've noticed there is zero consistency in how family courts administer the laws. Zero. Family courts are a complete mess. I remember sitting there one day waiting for my case to be called: the judge bangs his gavel and makes an authoritative ruling, so much a week, the man groans, the judge frowns, then a woman in the back row of the crowd says, "That's not fair!" "Who are you?" thunders the judge. "I'm his mother," she replies, "and you setting the child support that high means he will have to keep living with me. For God's sake he only makes [x-amount] a week!" So the judge immediately cuts the support amount in half. WTF? Every guy waiting his turn immediately wished he'd brought his mom along.
She has a point. She doesn't have to be penalized because her son is a wanker. What should be consistent is that every case needs to be seen on a case by case based on what the man makes and what his real expenses are per month. It is appropriate to have someone that doesn't have anything to gain or loose to see how much a man or woman makes, what their real expenses are per month and how much they can provide or the CHILD'S expenses and only the child's expenses per month (schooling, clothing, food, etc.). Then it doesn't even have to be until the child is 18 perhaps two years, three years, five years or so depending on the person that has the custody and their job situation. My Mom was making less than my Father it took her a while to earn more. By the time she was able to fully afford us both without a problem, a judge could have lowered the child support if the child support had been substantial at that point even though I was a minor. The child support was almost non-existent and he didn't pay it most of the time. She had to go to court many times to at least get it out of his paycheck automatically and that took years and by the time it happened we really didn't need it, but considering all that we went through my Mom wasn't going to give that back and it was a pittance. I think that because there are so many cases it is impossible to do follow ups and do to case by case. I think that a lot of rancourous and greedy women and men plugging the system is at fault. Don't quite know the solution here other than to weed out the greedy and the haters, perhaps hire private social workers and accountants... don't know.
Except that Social Workers are a large part of the problem.
In almost every situation, from child support to abuse cases. Social workers (sociology majors) are essentially trained to observe, and maybe make a few suggestions, but in general, not to intervene. Then they pay them like shit (Masters degree required, paid maybe 30 grand a year) and put them in situation that call for intervention! And the final determinants are made by family court judges who have their own agendas.
Perhaps... just stating that private companies who actually know what they are doing should be allowed in maybe.
You got it JP. I think they hire man haters and lesbians as social workers just to make sure the men get screwed over.
I think what he's saying, Kimmy, is that 90% of the social workers and 90% of the FOC employees are women... and not just normal regular women but women with an attitude. They hate men and they use their positions to act out. Just my opinion.
I would counter by saying that governmental social workers are a problem. They are overworked and in some ways under paid. If PRIVATE as I stated above social worker and accountants could be hired to deal with the workload it would be helpful perhaps. Perhaps private people could be allowed to have government contracts for a year at a time and they have to re-sign and only allowed back if they have a good track record. I know of some social workers that won't work for the state but they want to use their schooling so they want to work with private institutions, BUT if they could add to their load with government contracts not sure how is that a bad thing. So they are not working for the government per se.

If the wife was caught cheating, he pays, if he got caught cheating, he pays, if he wants custody, he loses, if she wants custody, he loses.
Not necessarily. My ex was ordered in court to pay child support and pay the insurane premiums for the kids, but that rarely happened until I went BACK to court and the garnished his wages. I spoke to his probation officer and was told he really was trying to get a job ( a person who had worked perhaps 5 years out of 40.) I told the officer that he didn't know my ex, that I did, and reported he was applying for jobs he would never get to fill out the forms proving he was working. I got ignored as the bitchy wife. My nephew got the guy on the phone and told him the same thing and we were in court getting a judgement and garnishment of any wage in less than a week. THe wife isn't always just a bitch. Sometimes its legitimate. The first lawyer I went to said I would have to pay his lazy ass spousal support until the divorce was final. I found another lawyer!
