She fled the scene after hitting the poor guy, was chased by another bicyclist, then, no doubt realizing she was caught, returned to the scene 20 minutes later. Meanwhile, the guy she hit was suffering and dying in the street.

Eight years is the max in Kalifornia for vehicular manslaughter, plus add on time for the DUI. I had a friend whose son was rear ended and killed at an intersection by a speeding three time DUI driver. She got eight years and is now out...

I said once before I am not a big fan of organized religion simply because it is just another political party in a robe. Religion is personal, between you and whatever you believe in.
But Catholics fry my beans with their nose in politics instead of looking out after the poor and less fortunate. The Vatican has millions and millions of dollars, plus who knows how much precious metal.
They just had a fella at the Vatican that was trounced for living the millionaire lifestyle on the Church's dime.
Same with a lot of other denominations and some of these mega churches.....They got big bucks, and they play politics.
Plus each denomination seems to believe they are the only path to salvation...including those cave-idiots in the middle east. Then there are people like the "Reverend" Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson. Reverends of what?? Hell I can get a mail order certificate that makes me a reverend or a mullah, or a monk...what the hell does that prove?

Requiring a person to go to jail for illegal activity is not judging them in the sense the Bible passage you refer to speaks of judging.

Jesus didn't say those words to mean that we should never look at others' behavior and judge whether it is sinful. The very notion is silly. How could we help our fellow Christians if we weren't able to tell them when they're off the track? Jesus very clearly, if you look at the context, was saying that you better be ready to have your own behavior judged similarly. In this case, I know I would judge myself just as harshly if I killed a man in a hit-and-run.

Forgiveness doesn't mean what she did was right. It means you are not going to.let her behaviour destroy your life and faith. She needs rehab.
She needs more than rehab. Alcohol makes you a bad driver - it doesn't make you the kind of person who turns your back on a dying man. Nobody is beyond redemption and maybe this woman can have some kind of role in the church again someday, but the members of the church are not God, able to see into the soul of their fellow human beings. As human beings, they need and deserve church leaders they can trust are not moral cowards.

So true. The reasonI had an issue with a Priest who was calledto our church based on bald faced lies. Then he took up with aparishoner, finally divorcing his wife and marrying the parishoner. He caused mlany people to leave, not just that church, but turned away from God. To me, that is a heinous crime.

There are more than one verse about judging. Jesus said you will know them by their fruit. He taught to be careful how you judge, especially if you are in sin...

Regardless of who or what her faith is, you don't leave the scene of an accident and come back unless you are trying to remove something that could incriminate you. Given her current history, a blood test might be in order.
Jesus was disappointed with the religious leaders of His day. No different now, even though we have access to His Word and Holy Spirit. If they are not the most important part your life you can not come close to walking in His footsteps. Don't judge Christianity through man, you will be disappointed. Christ is the standard and few will ever come close.
The leaders of Jesus' day had access to scripture. They were just so set in what they believed wss rightous behaviour, the couldnt see the Light when it arrived. Read about Peter. He screwed up repeatedly, yet wss made head of the growing Christian church, by order of Jesus.

I understand the need for redemption and forgiveness, but those things come after the consequences have been paid and the guilty have reconciled with God. It's not only the Episcopal Church that was ill-served by the rush to produce "diversity" in the bishop ranks, it was Suffragan Heather Cook herself. Instead of promoting her, they should have confronted her and helped her face her demons. They might have prevented the ruin that is now her life. Unfortunately for the Episcopal Church and Ms. Cook, I suspect those demons are ones the church is no longer willing to confront.

I was at an Episcopal wedding this year, and the liberalism hung in the air and dripped down the walls. The folk there practically pick fights. "How's the weather, and don't you just love abortion?" It's nearly at that level.
Someone was trying to explain what happened to the last pastor (or whatever) and very gingerly told us that he cheated with one of the flock. Someone else had to snidely and brashly interject, "You mean he was human."
Level ofliberalism varies from Diocese to Diocese, and even church to church. There are some that are so open mind we d their brains have fallen out. Not true for all of us.
That was just the finest Christian thing to do. No doubt she'll be requesting to have her version of the Good Samaritan put out soon. Sarcasm just one of the many qualities that I offer.

She should have stayed and rendered aid, instead she took off. She is unfit for her job as far as I am concerned. and from what I read about her prior driving history, she should be riding a bike herself.

When you're bleeding in the street, every minute is crucial. That's what infuriates me. I lost a brother because no aid was given - everybody just sat back and waited for the ambulance.
And as for coming back, it's not clear she came back out of a sense of conscience or because she saw the other bicyclist chasing her and knew she was caught.
Like I said, you don't get to say sorry after you do something like this.
Sorry about your brother. You can thank scumbag attorneys for that. People are afraid to render aid for fear of being sued if something happens. What is needed are good Samaritan laws so the attorneys can't sue if you render aid to an accident victim.
The bicyclist must have declined an offer to attend her church services, triggering this unfortunate event.
