Picture David Axelrod, David Plouffe and Jim Messina up before the crack of dawn huddled behind “Pluto’s” luxurious dog house. Axelrod is frowning and doing his usual finger pointing saying, “Plouffe either you or Messina need to have a heart to heart with Barack – Michelle is causing us problems like she did in 2008.
Remember when she spouted off and said, “The first time in my adult lifetime, I’m proud of my Country.” We need to put a muzzle on her – maybe send her back to Hawaii on an extended vacation or send her to her room until the election is over.
Messina said, hey guys that’s not my job – I’ve got my hands full trying to find out who’s sending donations in signed “Mickey Mouse and Super Man.” Those big bundlers Obama paid off in 2009 are starting to talk about the grants and loans Barack passed under the table. The news media is picking up on this too - it’s not looking good on my end.
Plouffe said, “Boys we’ve got worse problems then Michelle’s mouth – Obama is our worst night mare; he doesn’t have an agenda – in fact his record the past three years looks like a rerun of Old Jimmy Carter recycled toilet paper.”
Axelrod said a few choice words under his belt and yelled at Plouffe, “You really screwed up when you told Barack to get rid of Bill Daley; this is his third Chief of Staff and it’s not going over good with the goons out there.
Plouffe retorted, “Tell Harry to start shredding the Republican bills that he’s stashed in the Senate.” “By the way Axelrod, speaking of screw ups – your blunder on the Daily Rundown when you called Newt Gingrich the Godfather of gridlock is going to haunt us.”
“Now the news media is all over this like a hot potato – they’re pulling Newt’s record up and it’s one hell of a record; he’s probably one of the most influential politicans of our time. If the big “O” had a spoonful of Gingrich’s intelligence and political savvy, the 2012 race would be a shoo in for us.”

Newt perfected the art of reaching across the table – in 1995 President Clinton and Newt Gingrich worked together and accomplished absolute miracles.
In 1996 the Telecommunications Act was passed, the first real revision in over 60 years. The House passed the bill 414-16 margin – 178 Democrats and 236 Republicans supported the bill. Speaking of reaching across the table!
President Clinton and Newt worked on the Welfare reform, 1996 and it passed (230 Republicans and 98 Democrats.)
Next was the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, 1996 – this Act allowed employees to change employers without losing their health insurance due to any pre-existing illnesses, it addressed provisions for health information privacy. This was literally a landslide vote - passed 421-2.
In 1997, the Balanced Budget Act – this bill actually cut spending that would insure a balanced budget by 2002. Passed by large majority vote again - 346-85 margin
Again in 1997 Taxpayer Relief Act, 1997 was passed – this bill was well crafted offering a child tax credit, penalty free withdrawals from IRAs for first time home purchases or for education expenses. It included limitations on the estate tax and decrease in the capital gains tax. House passed the final bill 389-43.
Newt Gingrich and President Clinton weren’t bosom buddies, but reached across the aisle; both put Americans and their Country came first, they didn’t allow negativity or petty disagreements to interfere.
Here is a report from the Washington Times – Newt definitely put his Country first.
At the presidential bill-signing ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House, Gingrich called for "‘bipartisan leadership across the planet" to put aside party differences and address other nagging problems that, like the deficit, worry the public," the Washington Times reported. "‘We will meet the moral integrity test in peacetime of not spending our children's and grandchildren's money," he said. "We have a chance over the next three and a half years to work together . . . to accomplish a lot.’"

I would challenge the assertion that Sapphire Stevens was a "caricature" of an "angry black woman." She was no more a stereotype than any entertainment character of any color. In fact, her character was extremely kind, generous, patient, and forgiving - all the more remarkable considering her husband, George "Kingfish" Stevens!
Yes, I have actually watched the TV show and heard the extant radio episodes as well; I'm not just tossing on ex post facto analyses from agenda-driven commentators.
Two of the main characters, Andy Brown and The Kingfish, were humorous stereotypes - The Kingfish was a slicker, conman, and hustler. Andy was the gentle and naive friend who was, more often than not, the victim of Kingfish's cons. Their relationship was much in the way of Abbot & Costello.
Amos was not a clown. He was the solid, sensible neighbor type of character, who was secure in a loving marriage, a self-employed businessman. It was he who usually rescued Andy from The Kingfish's scams.
What is more remarkable of the TV series, for its time, is its perfectly natural and un-condescending picture of life apart from the main characters. It is set in Harlem - and peopled with shopkeepers, businessmen, policemen, lawyers, judges, teachers, etc., in short, a complete community, all black, all perfectly ordinary people, and further, without attention being drawn to the fact. Aside from frequent comedic malapropisms, occasionally dependent on dialect (a la Archie Bunker), the scripts are virtually race-neutral: nothing of the humor or situations depend on the characters being black, or in Harlem. On one occasion, we see that Andy and The Kingfish have been (wrongfully) suspected of a crime, and a white business executive has called the police. All we hear is the end of the conversation and him saying, "Yes, that's their description." We never actually hear them described. For that matter, one of the rare episodes where there are actual criminals about, they are white!
No, of course "Amos & Andy" is unacceptable by modern taste - but taste is a fickle thing. I do not believe the show is inherently offensive, and it is certainly not the howling racist blasphemy that some would have us think. Personally, I think a lot of the black characters on modern TV are far more demeaningly stereotyped.
For that matter, it is white characters, if any, who are offensive caricatures: starting with aforesaid Archie Bunker right through to Al Bundy. How many hard-working, respectable, sane, faithful husbands and good fathers are on TV now who are white? The last one I can think of is Hank Hiil, and he's a cartoon.
And that's the way it is.

By the way, you might not have found the show offensive, but a lot of black Americans did. So what makes you think you're better qualified than they are to say whether or not the characters on a show are negative stereotypes?
A lot of people make a career out of being offended. Some even seek out situations in which to be offended -- going so far as to continually post drivel all over the internet in blogs where their views are not held in "sufficient" esteem, and then taking umbrage at the inevitable flak that ensues.
Such people apparently lack the ability to distinguish between threats, insults, subtle mockery, humor, opinion, and idle chit-chat, and instead seek to make all others march in ideological lock step with what, in the end, merely constitutes an opinion.
It definitely doesn't make what offended them universally offensive. Often, such umbrage is clearly one of those "Methinks the lady doth protest too much" things.

It reminds me of something one of the doctors said to me at work when I was new to the ER: "When a patient comes in with several different complaints, chances are that none of them are serious." She personifies the stereotype of the Angry Black Woman----a stereotype that I often see here, assigned to the First Lady.

Either that, or no one's told you that regular exercise is an effective step in preventing childhood obesity, and that children tend to learn better by example than just by preaching.
I guess no one told you, either, that people who exercise regularly (whether doing jumping jacks, aerobic dance workouts or jogging) often wear special clothing that makes it easier to move----and that such attire is considered to be perfectly respectable, even for First Ladies, during workouts.
