New York to scrap literacy test for teachers

• Because learning to read and write is racsis and stuff. It's the same damn thing the Democrats were doing back in the 1850's.

• My apologies for the length of this comment... but, I just had a classroom argument with the psyche professor regarding his constant SJW lecturing that has nothing to do with teaching psychology, yet he keeps insisting "it all ties in together" and that I have an issue with income and race or something because I made it clear that his social justice lecturing was illogical, disruptive and disingenuous... All this nonsense coming from a guy who admits to the class that he left the social work profession because it doesn't pay well, that the case loads plus regulatory paperwork is overwhelming, all of course due to lack of funds, and how Reagan released the mentally ill and now they're all homeless and in prisons and how the military eats up all the money that should go to the inner-city autistic people who have no future in this world at all, and it's no fair because of the privileged white man. Not to mention, he also included with his rant the misery of women expected to stay home and raise children as men went to work in the 50's. WTF? Holy crap. Yes, I let him have my two cents in front of class and I am happy I did it.

  I'm sure he'd be all in for scrapping literacy tests, so long as he himself is able to read and write, and perhaps lord over the rest of the great unwashed. As it is, he doesn't give exams and only requires a one page, double-spaced opinion piece every two weeks on a sentence we find interesting in the text book, which we don't use at all in the curriculum with the exception of these 3rd grader type assignments.

  I will not be signing up for any more of his classes, that's for sure. So far, I've been pulling 4.0 but perhaps after my arguing with him, he might dock me points for being disagreeable... who knows.

  • Based on my experience, you may be running a 4.0 but your grade will be, at best B-.

    • Now that I've had a chance to digest what you said... yes, that would be what a tyrannical psychobabbling maroon like that would do. It's their natural reaction to punish anyone who disagrees, so nothing new about that. I guess I will have to take my lumps for "being real."

  • What I posted makes just as much sense as scrapping the test.

    • It's all about the feelz, not IQ. I'm beginning to see that playing out. Something about Social Intelligence, not the three R's, being more important. This apparently fixes everything and our world will become the unicorn romper room they've been promising us.

      On the other hand, if you persist in your belief about excelling intellectually, you will have to sit in the corner with the dunce hat on your head... and you also don't get a cookie.

    • Ah but to liberals, it makes no sense to ensure that teachers, especially teachers in inner city schools, have the minimum skills needed to teach there. But then these same liberals piss and moan about the low quality of education in inner city schools. Then these same liberals are offended when someone points out the obvious..that liberalism is a mental disorder.

  When I was a young man, before the age of the interwebz thingy, no book was safe from my grasp and prying eyes.
  We had a full set of encyclopedias, as well as the classics, brothers Grimm, letters from the founders, Plato, Aesop, and a bunch of others that I can not recall.
  Dictionary's, thesauruses, papers, fiction, non fiction, philosophy, national geographic, popular science, history, politics, Nancy Drew, Hardy boys, Sherlock Holmes, Heinlein, Bradbury, L. Ron Hubbard, Woodward and Bernstein,if it had a printed word, I was there,
  At 9 years old I was on a first name basis with the librarians in both the school library basis well as the city one.
  Hell, I have even been known to read a Harlequin romance if nothing else was available.

  DESPITE all that, my teachers would tell you that what I speak and write is NOT English.
  Structure a sentence? HA! Forget it.

  Verbs, adverbs, things such as that....nope.
  I write like I speak, and even at that I am more qualified than most alleged teachers today.

  Hell, sit your kids down and let them watch school house rock......they will be better educated than 4 years of college will ever teach them.
