In the period just after the assassination the buzz among the media was: Dallas, conservative stronghold, right-wing conspiracy. When they found out the shooter was a Communist sympathizer, the template was quickly changed to: lone gunman, isolated and with no ties to others.
My family was living in Austin at the time. The people my parents knew and conventional wisdom was JFK would not live out his term. The reason: a lot of Texans thought their own LBJ would bump him off. Maybe they were right. We will never know.
Think about it? Who didn't JFK piss off? The lone nut theory seems unlikely given the wide array of people who wanted him gone.
They're probably celebrating because people actually bought their rags back then.
Revisionist history. Oswald was a communist no doubt about that. There's no need to swerve off the subject into other aspects of that fateful day 50 years ago.
All you Kennedy worshipers might wish to keep in mind JFK was for lower taxes and smaller government. He was a staunch anti communist. Just the opposite of all you worshipers of the fantasy called Camelot.

You said "loon." As in one. The link includes two different columnists at two different newspapers - Washington Post and New York Times - making the same argument, that rightwing attitudes in Dallas were responsible for the assassination.

Put this under the category of the university that proclaims on a plaque that Lincoln was a Democrat. Historical revisionism. Oswald was a Communist. He went to the USSR and he wanted to go to Cuba. JFK was very anti-communist so there is your pretzel logic right wing connection since the right and JFK shared a common hatred for communism.
No doubt many in Texas didn't like Kennedy after he denied air support during the Bay of Pigs and almost got us into a nuclear war with Khrushchev who ate his diplomatic lunch before and after the missile crisis. Hell, LBJ hated him. Still, it does not change the fact that LHO was a leftist and he killed a Democratic president. Ironically, he was more TEA Party than most Democrats today would admit since he lowered taxes and preached self-reliance.
Don't forget there was a serious rift in the TX Dem party at the time too. Connally barely eeked a win in a runoff in the Democratic primary in '62 (and TX govs. were elected every 2 years then, so he was up again in '64). Kennedy couldn't win in '64 without Texas, Johnson and Sen. Ralph Yarborough (who was also in the motorcade that day) were the chief arm twisters, why JFK was in Texas for a 2 day 5 or 6 city tour.
If he were alive today, the left would be calling JFK a right wing nutcase.
