• A once great city reduced to rubble. It's no coincidence that the city has been mis-ruled by Democrats for the past 50 years. The saddest thing is these same Democrats will be reelected in this one-party city. These's no hope for Detroit under the current circumstances.

  • Actually, Detroit has a good mayor now. Basketball Hall-of-Famer Dave Bing stepped in to save the city he loves, and he's not the crapturd Democrat raper-of-the-city they've had for so long. He's a decent man who didn't need this gig, didn't want this gig, but thought he should try. He's pushing a garbage truck uphill, but he's trying. After basketball Bing founded a successful business and the reports say he's tough as nails to work for, and has the kind of bottom-line attitude the city needs, but... so far he's had mixed results.

    • Mayor Bing is getting some push back on his plans (Lord knows WHY. Anything would be an improvement.) He wats to reduce the city limits and he wants to tear down the absolutely ruined buildings so that clean, open lots are available for new building, both residential and business. But no, the Detroiters on't want hi to do that, so they are bitch ing incessantly.

      • Yeah, I've been watching that. He came up with an emergency budget plan and his own CITY ATTORNEY took him to court. Sheesh. The court eventually ruled that Bing could impose his budget cuts, but trying to do everything that needs to be done with that kind of blowback sounds impossible in the long run. I wish some of the Detroit neighborhoods would consider reverse annexation, where they secede from Detroit and form their own communities. If you have a tight-knit community with some remaining pride in itself, seems to me you could make it work.

    • I hope you're right about Bing but his good intentions may not be enough. The problem is Detroit's remaining population is largely dependent on government largesse, there's not much of an entrepreneurial spirit left.

• I'm really sorry I can't work up something nasty to say, I really tried. Most of these old houses are or were beautiful, it is so sad that the entitlement generation can't appreciate them. p.s. I am a photographer but you don't have enough money to get me in there.

• The city ought to make that into a haunted house and pull in a few bucks before Halloween.

  • Who would come and who has any bucks?

• I thought liberals only lived in a socialist utopia? Another failed dream of the irrational....and they are too dumb to figure out it ain't working, even with photos.

  • They all left the area when it really started to tank.

    • And it's important to note that it's not just white people who leave. The media always calls it "white flight" because the media loves to stress racial chasms, but black people leave, too. When I went to the University of Michigan in 1972 anybody who said they were from Southfield was automatically assumed to be Jewish. It was a Jewish city. Thirty years later my nephew was working in Southfield and it was mostly black - middle and upper class working black who had fled the cesspool of Detroit in search of the American dream.

• Wow. I could do some nice photoshoots there. But I'd have to be well armed, and I don't think Detroit takes kindly to hard working conservative white guys packing heat.

  • Honestly, I don't think you would be unsafe. Many neighborhoods are so empty even the bad guys have gone. Look at the house in the picture - it's too far gone to serve as a crack house. Driving around Detroit is like visiting a post-apocalyptic movie set. The only thing I'd be watching for are living dead coming to eat me... and everybody knows zombies don't run very fast.

    • Maybe Hollywierd should start filling Zombie movies in Detroit....

      • I was thinking the same thing. Why build an expensive movie set when you can have a whole square-mile of emptiness all to yourself and never have to inconvenience residents because there are none?

        • And Detroit could use the cash infusion.
