Notre Dame students walk out on Pence commencement speech

• I used to work there(I live around ten miles away) and most of the students I met weren't like this. Plus, it was only around 100 out of a graduating class of 2,000.

  If Notre Dame wasn't a name that most people recognize, it wouldn't even be newsworthy. If it happened at WGAS U., there wouldn't be a peep about it. The mainstream media strikes again.

  It was pointless though because them walking out won't change a damn thing. They were just trying to draw attention to themselves, little social justice warriors(SJWs) that they fancy themselves to be.

  I'm sick and effing tired of the local media making a big thing out of it though.

• Meaningless gesture. If they had any integrity they would refuse to accept the diploma altogether. After all their university is nominally Catholic and so ultimately under an authority that is (again, perhaps nominally) in agreement with much of what they are protesting against Pence for.

• Commencement speakers are announced beforehand. Anyone with class who disagrees with Pence had the time to get their diploma set to be sent to them or to pick it up before and not attend in order to avoid being offended. If Liberals are SO OPEN MINDED as they always scream they are, the students would have gone and listen to what he had to say and extract from it information that may or may not help them in their lives and then critique whatever he said afterwards in the medium they deemed necessary or useful.

  However walking out is both not open minded and it is extremely rude. They wanted to walk out in order to virtue signal but all in all just came out looking foolish, closeted (pun intended) and rude.

• As much as I disliked obama/biden, I think I would have had enough respect for the office, that I'd send my kid a bill for her education had she pulled a stunt like this. I'd like to see ND pull all the degrees from these twits for disrespecting the program and tradition of commencement ceremony by walking out and wearing robes and gowns of their choosing. "Sorry snowflakes, but until the caps and tassels are tossed into the air at the end of the program, you haven't graduated, therefore no degree."

• They want respect but fail to realize they have to give it too. They just act like petulant spoiled children instead of the adults they are supposed to be. No matter their differing views, he's still the VP. How many conservatives walked out on Obummer or Gaffe fest Biden?

Like the poster below said, had this been Obama they walked out on they would not get their degrees, there would be special news reports and all hell would break loose. They want to be stupid?       There HAS to be decorum in certain social and milestone occasions. A civilized culture actually demands it. Even in the face of something triggering, WHICH can be avoided without repercussion for the person that wants to avoid it outright and civilly (they can still get their diploma if they decide not to go, and they can state why they are not going) INSTEAD of the person making a fool of themselves "protesting" an event that has no serious trauma inducing anything.
