I keep reading some asshole bitching about "corperate greed". This moron does'nt seem to be upset by our greedy gov't & the lazy ass greedy welfare recipients, many of them have not worked an honest day's work in their lives.

Corporations want to hire all the time, McDonalds is a good example, but the gooberment makes sure that the welfare checks, food stamps, subsidized housing, free child care for people who do not work, (why would anyone need childcare services when they don't have to leave home) all the goodies provided are worth more than a honest paycheck.

I always thought I'd enjoy visiting NYC for the sights, restaurants, and culture, if you could take about 2/3 of the people out of the city temporarily. I grew up in a small town and have limited tolerance for being in crowds where you're all tripping over and bumping into each other.
People weren't meant to live packed like sardines in a can.
One of my friends, when he was in college, had a tiny efficiency apartment. It was technically three rooms, with one main (very small) room serving as living room/dining room/bedroom, with the refrigerator in it as well, a kitchen that you could scarcely turn around in, and a miniscule bathroom. I think it cost him about $250 a month in the 90s. I was appalled at first, but he'd come from living with his family in a trailer home, with too many other people, so he was thrilled to have that much space of his own.
However, you can bet that once he could afford it, he moved into bigger and better space.
I lived in New York City for years and my first apartment was a studio. Not much room but it fit my budget. Then I got married and we moved into a one bedroom aprtment, more room but higher rent. Then we had a baby and decided to leave New York.
Bottom line: a studio apartment is okay for a young, single person just getting sarted in the job market. Living in NYC is fun and exciting but it's expensive and no place for to raise a family.
I still enjoy visiting NYC and we go there twice a year.
But don't get thirsty.
Not to worry. Bloomberg will have em thinned down enough to fit two people in a 150 sq foot apartment. Fucking corporate greed for you there....

What type of life did the people have when only one greedy state and no one else ran things? Apartments are a hot issue for me right now. My kid got a fellowship to a university grad program, and we are looking for an apartment for her right now. I want her in a safe, secure place and we found a great place for (I am not joking) $1650 a month. That is a small one-bedroom apartment. 638 square feet. For $1900 she could get the 800 square foot one. These are really bargains when you consider that the 3 bedroom ones are $7500. A. MONTH. Who can afford this? I could have bought my first house for 10 months rent!

Some people have reservations about the plan because it seems reminiscent of old tenements. The people behind the plan say that this is not true because tenements were families in a small space while the micro-units are only supposed to be leased to one or two people. Of course, this probably wouldn't stop a determined group of 3 or more from pooling their money and then leasing the micro-unit under the names of only 2 members of the group. Or having one person leasing the micro-unit and then letting several people stay at the apartment for a fee. Or having a couple lease the micro-unit and not tell anyone that their children live there, too.
According to the article, "46.3 percent of households consisting of one person, according to the 2010 census" and that it's estimated that 76 percent of residents live alone or with one other person. So, I'm pretty sure that Nannybloomberg wants to shove as many people into the city as possible. By shoving as many people as possible into one place, they can get that much more money. At least according to liberal thinking. They might actually get a few gains at the beginning. And what happens if they city gets some extra tax dollars from shoving a lot more people into one space? Well, the city might start mandating that current apartments become micro-units or that when renovations occur, only micro-units are to be created. And that's when they city will start losing money. You see there will be people who do not find micro-units suitable for any number of reasons. And if they city starts making it harder to find apartments that aren't micro-units, they will go someplace else more to their needs.
My potent powers of prophesy that this will fail in some way.
The real motivation behind this is to get as many new welfare dollars from the fed as possible.
If they would just kick the UN out of the country, they could turn that building into thousands of micro units!
