I take that move as one of the obvious steps necessary for the global occupation which we are well into now. The creation of the Federal Reserve was the first big step taken. The process takes generations but we are sure close to their stated goal now, here some 4 decades after stepping out of the sovereign condition maintaining real value our currency allowed. Debt based economic systems fail. By design they must.

Good point, Nixon placed NOAA as part of the Department of Commerce because at the time that's where weather forecasting had it's greatest effect.
I'm wondering where the Coast Guard was then. It started as Dept of Revenue, then was under Transportation for a long time. Wonder if it was in Commerce at some point, and it kinda made sense to put another non-DoD seagoing branch in there with it?

I know, I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I do feel like this is one of the rare cases in which BHO is, in fact, blaming the right person. Nixon did place NOAA in the Commerce Department.........
It's completely obvious why Obummer is doing this. Just another play at getting more power. Does the government need to be consolidated? Absolutely. If BHO gets these powers, will he merge departments? Probably. Can we trust him to ensure that the government will be downsized because of the merger? Hell to the fuck no.
But he is entirely correct in blaming Nixon for where NOAA ended up. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and aging. Although in Obama's case, it's more like a nut finding a blind squirrel.
Maybe but it does not matter who put NOAA where. This is a transparent election year ploy to LOOK like he is going to limit government, IMO. Nothing changes the fact we will have $16T worth of debt by election day if the spending velocity continues. Interest on that debt will be over $40B per month. That alone should be enough to get him out of office.
I was eating a late dinner after a photo shoot last night, in a VERY gay restaurant. Great food, great service, everyone was very nice and fun to hang out with. But they had CNN on the big screen, and when the captioning said "Obama calls for a more streamlined Federal Government," I almost spewed iced tea all over the table. Even the normally quite liberal gay men in the place laughed at that.
So that's why he's been appointing all those hideously overpaid tzars, he's running out of people to blame for his mistakes, and needs them to find more.

President Barack Obama, the best president.... evvv-ah... is absolutely correct to lay the blame on Tricky Dick. He didn't mention the Democratic Presidents since then that failed to correct the issue, but this is just proof of the man's generosity.
