Obama: Hiroshima Visit Will Underscore ‘Job’s Not Done’. Wrong. The job was done on September 2, 1945 aboard the USS Missouri. What it took to get the job done was four years of suffering, over a million US casualties and the atomic bombing of two Japanese cities. Without the bombings what it would have taken to get the job done would have been at least another half million US casualties and, in the case that they fought to the last person, the near extinction of the Japanese people. What could not have gotten the job done was President that dishonors the memory of those brave Americans that saved the world from a thousand years of darkness.

  • F this noise. My uncle was on the USS Lexington at Pearl a week before the attack.(Before I was born, I'm not *that* old) Thankfully for my family, it was out to sea on a mission when the attack happened and it turned back immediately afterward. He lost a lot of friends and comrades that day.

    The Japs made their fricking bed so they got to sleep in it and they were willing to fight to the death, literally. Actions have fricking consequences. It's a shame that innocent people died but how many died in England, France, Germany, Russia, North Africa/The Mediterranean where my father served? Are their deaths worth less because they weren't killed by a nuke?

    They can all thank their "leaders" for that.

  • Kip what you said is real. To this day Japanese have no problem offing themselves. They would have fought, even if they knew it meant defeat hoping that their sacrifice meant a win in the end in the future. The Emperor in his ivory tower and Bushido bullsh*t, did not have a problem with the sacrifices made in Hiroshima. He was willing to call the US's bluff.. he failed. Forced to see that Japan could end up a parking lot with him included, after Nagasaki, got him and the rest of the Japanese to stop.

    I blame the Emperor and his advisors for this side of the war. At least Hitler had the courage (so to speak) to stop when he knew he was defeated and done for and off his own damn self. The Emperor should have done that as that was (and still is) a great part of his culture. A positive is that many Japanese people came to see he was just some guy and stop their worship of him and the Imperial family. I am sure not many Japanese worship Akihito.

    Was it sad? Yes but it was new technology that assured HUNDREDS of millions of people were going to live after this war. The US would not have been the only ones dragged into this forever war with the Japanese. It had to be used because without it being used and if there was just demonstrations on an uninhabited area it wouldn't have had the same gravitas and there would have not been any fear of total destruction. That fear is what keeps nations from using these bombs on each other to this very day.

    Also who the hell started this war to begin with? The war between US and Japan? Japan... so the US ended it. What the hell is wrong with that?
