Obama nominates openly gay black man to federal bench. Judge William Thomas joins six other openly gay judges nominated by Obama… plus Sotomayor and Kagan on the Supreme court. Maybe this doesn’t even qualify as news. Nominating a straight white male, that would be news.

  • RobertW: The issue of homosexuality/lesbianism and the like is something that is very personal because obviously sexuality is very personal. I do not believe in the 10% of the population thing. I think that true homosexuals/and so on are probably 1-5% of the population. I think that the reason it is so VISIBLE is because of people like Madonna and others who aren't really "gay" they were/are experimenting with their sexuality and put it up there in the pop culture for all to see. A great deal of men and women that were "experimenting" ended up just doing the normal life thing (wife/husband/live in someone and kids) as they grew older so that is why I am saying that. In the last "days" (so to speak) of Rome once the government leaders and the culture essentially and in all truthfulness would force everyday people (either through slavery, blackmail, peer pressure, etc) into partaking into what can be considered abnormal sexual behavior it lead (among other things of course) to its decay and end. I see that happening with this country and most Western cultures. It is what it is. Life is life. As Christians we have to essentially be prepared for whatever happens, stand for what we know is right and be ready to defend what we believe in and VERY IMPORTANTLY not participate ourselves in those actions and behaviors.

    Now with all of that said, I just want to say to you that I can understand where you are coming from, however I think that the exposition may need some tweaking. As someone (Rose?) stated it is important to know that certain things are indeed sinful, however the people engaging in the sinful behavior are in bondage to the sin and they are to be prayed for and to be cared for ESPECIALLY when there is an opening for them to escape the bondage through the Blood of Christ. If we are unable to make the distinction between "hating the sin, but loving the sinner" we risk alienating people that are in bondage and perhaps making it difficult for them to leave the sin so they won't sin anymore.

    Now I want to stop here and talk about something: It is very true that many people who are in sin and live in sin KNOW IT FULLY WELL and they just don't care. They love it and they don't want to change it and they want more of it. This is where discernment by the Holy Spirit of YWH comes into play. This is what Jesus Christ, meant by swine and pearls. If you do get to speak to a person who knows that what they are doing is wrong, they don't want to change, they revile your teaching (which should be loving, patience and appropriate to the situation) or initial reaching out, then do not throw the pearls of wisdom that Christ/The Spirit gives you on that person anymore for they will indeed turn around and hurt you. At some point you got to say hey it is your lost and move on, but in the end that person should just not be hated and reviled, just well sadly to say abandoned to his or her fate. I guess I am saying not to spend time with people that DO NOT CARE that they are sinning and know it fully well. I think... MY OPINION is that your exposition is to those that are fully aware of their sin and do not care and wish other to engage in order to "kill" the Lord's ways (stupid and unsuccesful move of course). However, I don't think Robert that this is something that can be said of all gays. Also not all gays (even if they are satisfied and complacent with their lives as is) would show discrimination or anger or meanness towards those that are Christian. So it is important to make the distinction between the militant and angry gays that want everyone to be exposed to their private lives and the gays that want to live their private lives privately. I still think that considering the small percentage of overall gays (and so on) in the Planet really those that are militant are the minor of population still. What we need to do is make sure that they do not gain power and that those that promote them are out of power and don't come into power either.

    Now there are a lot of people out there that may not know, they may be preoccupied with the possibility that what they are doing is wrong or sinful or there maybe people that AT ONE POINT didn't care but now they do. I believe that the language being used here can and will alienate them from looking for changes in their lives whenever the Spirit of the Lord is moving them to reason and knowledge that their actions are not pleasing to the Lord. Robert I can tell you without a doubt that I was not perfect before I truly came to know the Lord Jesus Christ. In fact I was and am a sinner. We (Christians) do not come to Christ because we are all good and life is good and we are perfect and sinless. If that is the truth then why would we need Christ for? Why would we ask Him to be our Lord? and why would we accept His sacrifice? Right? Those who come to Christ are broken, weak, sinful, disgusting, nasty, mindless creatures with no Master, naked, etc. He (Christ) has the power to turn us from mindless sinful creatures of stupidity and nastiness into saints. No sin is too small nor too great for the Lord to do something about it or to forgive and that friend also includes homosexuality/lesbianism and all the derivatives.

    Homosexuals (and so on) have a role to play in the world. King James the Second (?) was gay, I am sure of it, I could be wrong but there is a lot of history behind that assertion, however look THE BIBLE of Bibles so to speak was "created' and promoted by him. Sure there were political reasons, but who cares G-d used him to create a Bible that the masses could read and thus continue the propagation of the Word of G-d throughout the world and the Book had a 600 (?) year anniversary this year right? So I know that G-d knows what He is doing, what He is allowing and what He is going to do with the gay people of the world. Like Rose (?) said, we have to let G-d do what He does for He after all loves all of His creatures even the most base and disgusting ones and He wants all to be saved even if in all truth not all will be. We don't know though what He will do and so on so it is our duty as His people to fully and rightfully represent Him as people of His Kingdom in this world. If He gets a gay person to sit next to you in an airplane and you are sitting reading your Bible or you haev a crucifix or you are praying before eating... the gay person next to you may react to you in a very bad way and as a christian you still have to represent the love and patience of Christ. Perhaps not waste the pearls of wisdom upon that person, but definetly still represent the Lord in a godly way. Who knows? Your attitude and behavior may make him reflect later on in his or her life and who knows? you may plant a seed of love and that person may regret what they did and seek the Lord... However if the person reacts to you in a way where they want to know more about the Lord because they are questioning their lifestyle... what are you going to do? react with a bad attitude or represent the Lord Jesus? For all we know this could be another King James (so to speak) who may or may not continue to live his life in that way, but through perhaps other reasons and purposes does something that is worthwile in the eyes of the Lord and you may have planted that seed (with the power of the Spirit and His discernment).

    So sorry for the long thing here but I just feel that it is important to use the Words of our Lord as a gift that the Lord gives us so we can give to others, not as a weapon against them. Perhaps not even when they are being nasty to us, unless of course the Spirit truly asks you to let them know that they are erring in the eyes of G-d, I just think we need to be careful. I am not perfect of course there are A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE that I hate/seriously dislike and in all truthfulness if a terrorist or a pedophile is next to me I probably won't be going all love of Christ on them. However, I guess that depends if they are actively searching to destroy everyone or molest children or they know that what they are doing or did is wrong and are looking for a way out. If they are looking for a way out then perhaps this was G-d putting someone in my path that the Lord knows I have a serious problem with inorder for me to represent Him to this person. If they are not looking for a way out and are actively searching to hurt people they are going to prison or I will probably make sure that they are shot or something I am not wasting the Word of G-d upon them. So again I think we just need to be careful, have discernment and serve G-d by loving His creatures and knowing how to say the things that we should say in a way that serves the Kingdom. We don't want to go to the Lord and then have to answer for the missed opportunities to represent Him well, because we were consumed by our hatred or our agendas or our biases against people that were outside of the Kingdom of G-d.

    That is my two cents. You can take it or leave it. Not interested in a long and out discussion about this because it can become circular as it has already on this thread. Just wanted to put some perspective on this but I can understand if you don't agree, so if that is the case, I guess we can agree to disagree.

    Yes their behavior IS sinful. I wanted to make sure that was clear, just saying that my behavior was sinful as well and just because I am not gay it doesn't mean that I am better than any other sinner. I NEED THE LORD DESPERATELY and so (in my opinion) everyone else but you cannot convince everyone to know this, but you do have to make sure that they know it without them feeling like they cannot come up to the Lord because their sin is too great.

      Allow me to reiterate that IF the homosexuals kept themselves hidden, as should anyone re: sexual activity ought, for modesty if for nothing else, then it wouldn't be an issue. the fact that barry has nominated a homosexual, that homosexual sex-play is being taught in schools, that the teaching of the Bible in schools is verboten, the fact that homosexuals want to serve in the military, and be recognized as practicing, the fact that true marriage is undergoing an onslaught of unrighteousness, and has been, "The Scarlet Letter" seems to have a greater following through the ages in support of adultery than it merits, people marrying animals, (and marriage necessarily demands physical consummation) and now the homosexuals are greatly and continually desirous of mocking this holy institution even to the point where the RC have shut up re: that marriage is a sacrament, and, as was pointed out earlier, allow homosexuals to be communicants, speaks to the overall spiritual malaise that has overcome so much of this once Godly nation.
      I will not allow this godlessness to go unaddressed, as it is my duty and honor, knowing the truth, to speak against it.

      • Robert NO ONE (I think) is saying that we should ACCEPT homosexuality (and the like). Definetly not as an equal behavior or lifestyle to one's own. Tolerance DOES NOT MEAN Acceptance. That is a progressive game that we need to make sure not to play. I appreciate people that tolerate me even though they don't accept my point of view, because they are being the good side of human and intellectually honest. I can tolerate the fact that homosexuals (and the like) are part of this world, without become gay myself or advocating and accepting the gay lifestyle for myself or others. I would speak to the lifestyle in Christ as being infinetly better than the sinful lifestyle of homosexuality (and the like), however I cannot make anyone accept what I am saying just as I will not accept that lifestyle myself no matter how much THEY proselytize their lifestyle to me. In the end, we say what we know to be the truth as per the Holy Spirit ad then leave it in the hands of the Lord. We are to plant seeds or to sow the work of others, we just need to do it with fair representation of Christ our Lord. Christ did not come to destroy the world but to redeem it, He Himself said so. No one here is advocating the homosexual lifestyle (I think), no one here is saying that homosexuals are not sinning (maybe one or two don't know), we just need to be careful how we approach the subject and favor the way Christ would do it. He approached adulterous, cheats, liars, sinful people sometimes quite directly and sometimes from the side but He always did it with poise and grace and forgiveness. That is what most of us are actually saying. You are using the Word as a weapon only (which is appropriate in certain circumstances as the Spirit of the Lord mandates), however you are refusing to use the Word as a healing power or as a diplomat which is what we are in many ways in this world as people of G-d (while remaining unstained from the world).

        Again I understand where you are coming from, I am just afraid you are coming off so negatively that it is my concern that the Lord may place someone in your path to test you and you may fail the test to plant the seed or sow the work of someone else in that person's life. If the Lord reminds you that you fail to speak to someone the way He would have even though you had the guide of the Spirit and the person left you angry and without hope, He will hold you responsible for that.

        It is important to let them know that yes they are sinning and falling short of Christ but so did you Robert and so did everyone else that searches for Christ and establishes a relationship with Him. I don't read that from your comments and that is what I think most people are acting the way they are towards you. Caligula and Hitler we can only assume died unredeemed. However I beleive that if Caligula and Hitler had reached out to Christ humbly and with sincerity, even after all the evil they did, Jesus the King would have forgiven them.

    • I see where you're coming from: sexual preference doesn't necessarily affect your judgement or ability to apply the law. But I think we all know by now that "openly gay" carries with it a lot of baggage that has nothing to do with sexual preference. "Openly gay" might mean exactly that, or it might mean that he's bought into the gay political agenda which means anything goes as far as winning certain battles. If that's the case, then nobody with a conservative background will ever get a fair hearing in this guy's courtroom.

        • i had to deploy my reserve once, and you can bet that my happy little ass was beatin' feet to my main to find the evidence to show to the Black Hat, who was already on the way in a jeep to bawl me out for deploying the reserve. Once I found it, and he confirmed I did the right thing, he still bawled me out, but because my haircut was a barracks job and in his words "looked like a shaved wolf's pussy."
          Needless to say I headed to the barber shop immediately after evening formation.
