Being born rich and staying rich are two very different things. And a very many of these multi-generational fortunes would have dried up years/decades ago if it weren't for the intrusion of the state rigging the game in their favor and legislating their competition out of existence. As a man that has no solutions that do not involve the state picking societies winners and losers Obama complaining about this situation is just about as hypocritical as his wife complaining about how hard her life is while subsisting off of 1.4 billion dollars worth of the taxpayers money annually.
He should know. He won the biggest lottery, the presidency, and all the graft he can collect.
Obama is recycling Dick Gephardt who said, "Those who have prospered and profited from life's lottery have a moral obligation to share their good fortune."
Too bad Mr. Obama won't take his foot off the neck of the economy and allow more people to become "lucky" in life's lottery.
To some extent, there is a certain amount of luck to "make it"in America. The old rags to riches story of working up from mail room worker to.CEOis much more difficult. Moving into a middle class type lifestyle is easier, but even there, one needs papers that may or may not improve their job ability and productivity. Having money and/or connections is almost required.

Seems like you need to take you kids out of private school, stop going golfing and taking vacation and cut your own salary by half and give the rest of charity..otherwise you sound like a spoiled five year old who won't share his toys and your just throwing another temper tantrum because others won't share with you....Does that mean you think Soros is a lottery winner who needs to loose half his money to the poor instead of buying elections and media outlets and hiring looters and rioters? Does that mean Bill gates and Tom Steyner are also going to give up half their money to thugs so the thugs can have Cadillacs and plasma TV's? Cause that is what you are talking about isn't it Barry.. buying another election by having your rich friends pay for it. Barry those people who worked for what they have keep it under our system. It is no business of yours (after they pay taxes) what they do with it. Some people do win the lotto, most don't. OK, I'll play. Let's go with the 'Lottery' analogy.
A guy watches the news every night and sees the stories about the Lottery winners. A million here, a ten million there- some big money. He call out to God- "Why can't I win the lottery!!!". To which God responds, "Buy a damn ticket".
There is a degree of luck to success, but is funny how luck favors the bold and brave. You have to 'buy' your lottery tickets with hard work, intelligence and perseverance. How many times have these successful people bought lottery tickets- and got nothing? How many losing tickets did they have to go through before they got successful?
It starts early in life:
Work hard in school; here's a ticket.
Show up on time for you minimum wage job; here's a ticket.
Work hard and don't have an attitude; here's a ticket.
Learn or do something that others say can't be done; here's a ticket.
I've bought LOTS of tickets. Maybe I'm still at scratch-off money, maybe I'll hit the jackpot- but you have to buy a ticket.
The unsaid thing with Obama's 'tickets' is that Progressives try to aggregate people who have inherited money (hence the chance aspect) with people that have worked and built up something themselves. They try to put the Paris Hiltons in with the small business owners. The whole 1% thing only works if the examples are the 0.1% and the 0.01% and then lump in the small business owners, the farmers, lawyers and doctors. That's where the actually money is.
Lottery ticket.... better than being some Manchurian candidate.
Turned on the news this morning and had to smirk at seeing Obama giving an address at a national memorial service for fallen police officers. The unmitigated irony!!!
Apparently nowadays taxpayers are society's lottery losers.
