Robinson impression. “Yeah, we’re gonna have problems, you dirty rats.”

This whole tax the rich thing is just a way to deflect the fact that the stimulus spending DIDN'T work. Plain and simple. Dems need something to blame other than Bush, so here we go! Late 1970's all over again.
The stimulus was meant to be a slush fund that blunted the impact of the recession on Obama's core supporters. Like teachers, other gov't workers, & those who work in favored companies in the name of crony capitalism. Whether or not the stimulus worked meant nothing to those who pushed for the 1st stimulus who are now pushing for more stimulus. It's not their money, & they don't give a sh!t. The only jobs they are worried about are theirs, nobody elses job matters.
We are going to have a lot more problems if we don't stop spending the money we don't have on stupid shit like cowboy yodeling, and foreign aid to Pakistan.

I agree with the idea that it makes sense to increase your income, if we were talking of a private citizen trying to manage their own money. Unfortunately you are talking about a public entity (the gubmint) and the money being spent belongs to private citizens.

It's too late for that, MGAP. Both St. Ronnie and Bush Jr. squandered money we didn't have, all the while doing their best to reduce our revenue----and it didn't work out well for the economy. Obama tried some stopgag measures, which helped prevent total economic freefall, but that isn't enough. WE NEED REVENUE. We need to take care of the country. We have deteriorating infrastructure. We're falling behind technologically. We have adults and children who can't afford to see a doctor when they don't feel well. And we have far too many families living just one paycheck away from disaster.
I'm sorry, but "Stop spending" works only up to a point. It makes absolutely no sense to stop spending for necessities and routine maintenance, because that only delays the inevitable (and compounds the problem at the same time). It's like cutting your food budget to starvation rations, and doing away with your car. Sure, it will show some immediate savings, but, in the long run, it's going to cost you dearly.
No sweet hips, stop spending works every time. Without fail every single time you spend less than you earn, you have money left over. Every fucking time. Big man inherited a mess he PROMISED he would fix. He went on a spending spree. He did it wrong. Stop spending, plug the leaks, make a budget. Every time you do that, it will work. Spend like a teenager with Mom's credit card for two years THEN decide it time to pass a budget? Tell the poor people it's the rich people's fault that they don't have enough money to pay for all the spending they did? That is backwards.

I live within my budget, it's not unreasonable to expect others (to include the government) to do the same thing. Thinking that it's okay to tax and spend your way out of debt is the same kind of magical thinking that some bipolar would engage in.

In fact, you seem to advocate for redistributive policies that create a disincentive for people to actually want to earn more. You can't possibly believe your own posts. To be clear, I am using your example of an individual or a family.
The government only has money from the taxpayer. At the government level, raising taxes is in no way similar to raising income since income is created wealth and taxes are redistributed already earned wealth. Since you are an economic illiterate, I thought it necessary to point out that truth AGAIN.

Now, in my opinion, we're all grownups, and Obama shouldn't have to remind you that sometimes tightening the belt (especially when you won't tighten it on anyone except those Americans whom you dislike) isn't enough. But, since you don't seem to be able to grasp that very obvious point, he's having to emphasize it more and more forcefully.

The hell it doesn't. There are things you need and things you want, but can live without. 50% or more of the federal government is made up of things that we do not need.
We do not need to hand out billions of dollars to phantom companies that are set up to funnel money back tot the DNC and the Obama campaign, with a cut going to those who do the funneling.
We do not need to hand out a trillion dollars to create 100-200 jobs.
We do not need sweet tax deals going to GE because they are moving jobs to China.
We do not need a lot of the overbloated expenditures that Washington seems to be able to rack up with no thought going to how they will pay for it.
You live in fantanation land. A fantanation is a cross between a fantasy and a hallucination, you have no ability to think in real terms. Increasing income by stemming the flow of unnecessary spending is the best way to stop racking up massive amounts of debt.
And....AND...if that isn't enough to get the job done, THEN we can talk about reforming the tax code to one that is fair for all, to include the lower incomes who pay nothing in income tax but think like you, believing that punishing the rich is the way to go about making fairness.

The night Obama won the election a group of friends and myself were outside having a beer and watching the sunset.
One of my friends commented how beautiful the sunset was that night and how symbolic it was that the sun was setting on America.
He said it was the last sunset on a free America.

Seems to me we already have problems. One of them doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut and listen to the people, and likes to threaten as a model of governance, just the way he learned in the streets of Chicago.

Don't be surprised if the Governor of North Carolina slipped up a little and let the cat out of the bag early, saying what the administration has been thinking for some time now. There's a lot of time left before the election to create a huge enough crisis to start the talk of suspending elections until it can be resolved.
