An opportunity for the Chinese to import all of our "excess" coal. And maybe a chance to profit by buying coal stocks in the cellar now and unload them in a few years after they rebound in price. Peabody and Arch Coal have broken through their 52 week lows and the trajectory appears to be down even more. The nutjobs will have saved us by moving consumption of our coal abroad.
I'm not too worried yet. Its been priced higher, just a couple years ago. I don't think this raw cost for delivery-to-grid is the chief input into consumer pricing--otherwise we'd have experienced it before

I just got a $180 electric bill. If it goes up by 8.5 times the amount it is now (136/16=8.5) then my electric bill will go up to $1530/month! That's more than my current electric bill, mortgage, taxes, insurance, car insurance, cable bill, cell phone bill, and sewer and water bills COMBINED!!!
If Obungles wants to drive the country into the deepest sepression imaginable, all he has to do is get this to become a reality!

For the northern Ohio territory served by FirstEnergy, the price is a shocking $357 per megawatt.
Where did you find that data? I would like to see if they have projections for the entire country.
