Now if the man is really interested in creating meaningful new jobs in this country -as well as lightening the burden on the overstretched middle class- we’ll tell him the exact same thing his ex-wife used to say to Al Gore: “Drill here, drill now, pay less.”

Hey, why don't you filthy rich entertainment types hire a million man posse? Just pick a block of names from the unemployment roles and start sending them checks? It would backflush some of that cash you got piled up from your last movie/record deal into the economy without me having to pay for your brilliant fucking ideas. An economy is built by people starting business, grow them and hiring others. Why doesn't that ape Usher put his money where his mouth is and start some businesses that hire people and pay taxes?!?
Why all the red thumbs down? Is it because the word "ape" was used to describe a black man? When I went to Urban Dictionary, there were three entries before one even MENTIONED black people. The first entry, incidentally, was "George W. Bush". The third referred to Hillary Clinton.
It is not helping "the cause" if we complain about black people's hypersensitivity and victim mentality, and the cries of "racism" every time they take offense at something, if we also act as though certain words or statements have racial undertones. In other words, if Hooded Son had said that Justin Bieber was an ape and we wouldn't have flinched, then saying that Usher is an ape should also not mean anything more than what it is.

I just hate situations such as when people say "the N word" in hushed tones, while the people who are presumably offended by the word are out shouting it from the rooftops. I read an article a few years back where a County Commissioner in Dallas got all offended and screamed "RAAAAAACIST" when another Commissioner used the term "black hole" about a problem with no solution. Or the brouhaha about "calling a spade a spade".
Yeah, this one came in in a rage. Anyone that countered any of its points of rhetoric was target of its spleen vent, instantly. The wording was very much the same as one of the other flatliners that seems to have gone into hiding. So, yes. Troll either way.
Usher is a human being. A human being that has become successful far beyond any measure his talent could warrant . . . but a human being all the same. It is reprehensible to condemn the man for anything other than traits that are to be found broadly amongst all races and ethnicities.

Usher might not be the best example of the free market making a choice though. The music industry has for years controlled what was seen and heard. They've limited choice, fixed the price and cooked the books. Of course you might consider that an adequate reason for more government oversight.
Forgetting that for a moment though . . .
I think we should assume that there are varying metrics for determining relevance. But yeah . . . the one driving most everything is what is most profitable. Unfortunately for quality there seems to be an inverse corollary between profit and quality. This is inescapable. What sells the most will have to have the broadest appeal. And obviously what has the broadest appeal is the lowest common denominator.
If we end there, however, we have a rather incomplete picture of the relationship between the free market and music. The proliferation of bad music leaves a rather large portion of the population dissatisfied. The mainstream music industry cannot correct this error because their model for maximizing profits does not allow for it -well eventually they try with subsidiary labels. In response a new market opens. Surplus income and time allow people that love to make music to make music. Enterprising activities -of those that probably hate the notion of the free market but are much more part of it than the RIAA ruled mainstream music industry- allows for them to take advantage of the fact that even when pressing fewer numbers of CD's the disparity in how much it costs the big guys and how much they charge for it allows for indie labels to offer a less expensive product, offer a better product, bring that product to passionate fans and pay their artists better than most major label artists get paid given the fact that -for the major label artists- until 100 percent of production, marketing and distribution costs are recouped they owe the label $2.00 for every CD sold . . . and being that they are likely maxing out at $.50 a CD it is quite easy to go into debt to the record company.
And then somebody invents p2p. Suddenly the major label cannot control everything any more. And things change for the better. Of course crap music still rules the day. But crap music will always rule the day. Just like John Grisham will always make a lot of money selling the same book for the 20th time just because it has a different title and his cardboard protagonist has a different name. There is no accounting for taste. But without the free market I think there might be no escaping the bad variety of it.
One million "service" jobs? One million more federal employees. One million more potential public employee union members. One million more drones performing unproductive work. One million more dependent on the federal government. One million more in Obama's home security force. WTF, where's the money to pay their wages going to come from? Oh yeah, higher taxes, more borrowing.
It's New Deal and Third Reich deja vu. It didn't work 75 years ago, it's not going to work now. Someone should slap some sense into Larry David.
