The Hill's commenters mostly get it. In fact, their posts are spot on.
Here's one from someone called Dervrak responding to another poster who claims the proposal works against the "GOP narrative".
No it doesn't. These are European oil companies, they are already paying for these carbon credits under the EU system. They just want to impose these fees on their American competitors like Exxon-Mobil and the like. It has nothing to do with them giving a a damn about the environment, it's about sticking their competition with the regulations the EU has already stuck them with.
See, it is all about one government's regulations putting their companies at a competitive disadvantage so those companies respond by trying to force every other global player into the same regulatory net.
Add in an increase in prices to the consumer, they get to pocket a good portion of it, and give the rest to the corrupt bastards who came up with the scheme in the first place.
More of that Socialist/Liberal "fairness" Europeans love.....Apparently the European oil companies are butthurt and don't think it's "fair" they have to pay and American oil companies don't....waaaaaaaaaaa.
Yet, they're complaining about the new ethanol requirements.
