A couple weeks ago we did a story about Venezuelan filmgoers complete rejection of Oliver Stone’s movie “South of the Border,” an impassioned defense of the South American country’s dictator. The total box office take during the movie’s first eleven days was a meager, but amusing $18,601.
Sure, you say, but that was in Venezuela where the Bolivar or Doubloon or whatever monetary unit they use is worth about 3¢. Just wait ‘til it gets to the United States. It’ll surely be box office gold here.
Wrong.
WWTD has the background on this muy grande box office bomb:
“South of the Border’s” $111,000-plus haul over three weeks of release seems beneath a director of Stone’s reputation.
The film can only be seen in seven theaters at the moment, and that’s despite heavy media play for the once great director. Perhaps theater owners know audiences will have little appetite for the film, which even liberal minded movie critics have labeled second-rate propaganda
$111,000 won’t pay for the cost of cocaine and champagne at the premiere party.
Consider it another sign that (a) Americans are rejecting leftist philosophy and (b) Oliver Stone is a moron.

"see it first and comment later" or assume that the article is the absolute truth. like everything else that is written right?
To Chavez Rocks - "All you people are idiots, what do you call freedom?..."
Ummm...well, for starters, how about the First Amendment. You surely must be familiar with it...it guarantees freedom of speech like no other nation on earth.
You must not have realized it while you were frothing at the mouth during your diatribe against all things wrong with the US, but you are benefiting from it right here and now, even though you are not an American.
As for the rest of your tripe, I really don't have the time or inclination to respond to cretinous remarks.
All you people are idiots, what do you call freedom?, the ability for a super big corp to exploit you and own you just for the own interest?, to destroy and exploit the planet's resources for their own profit and interest?, to be just the sheep of all their plans, using religion and demonizing the holy name of god to defend your own points of views?, And yes America or the United States has in fact exploited S. American for a long time now, they are one of the reason that countries like Venezuela and others are in such state, and Americans still wonder why do everyone else in the world hates them
And somehow Chavez is right: Jesus was in fact socialist, he believed that everyone should help everyone else, to love each other, and to not be greedy, he favored the poor and cure them from their decease (without profiting from his own powers) so i cannot understand how you "Americans" can claim that your all Christians much less you calling yourself a "Christian Nation", if you favor a system that promotes hate and backstabbing, separates people into classes and exploits the weak and poor. Really you are just a bunch of hypocrites.
Let me talk to you for a minute. No one exploits me unless I want them to. So yes, I am free. When a market or an industry exploits people (because they tend to be ignorant and/or uneducated) and people (everywhere) are not okay with it it falls or it changes forms that is called capitalism, having the government come in will not allow it to fall or change form but it will actually make it worst. It is of course sad that ther are organizations that exploit people and the planet, but instead of bitching about it how about getting off your behind and helping out , as many people do, those people who are exploited? Do you have solutions?
Who in here is demonizing the Holy Name of the Lord? Please put examples because that is whack. What are you talking about?
You forget that many times South American countries HAVE ASKED the US for help and they owe the US a big deal of money that they are not paying back. So they get mad because they dont want to be reminded of the debt they have to the US, YET they still depend on the US. South American leaderships and governments are the ones that in all reality are exploiting their own people, Venezuela doesnt have to be the way that it is, it was the people that voted for Chavez and the have to deal with the consequences of it now.
Countries around the world hate the US because they envy the US and would like to be a superpower but at the same time need the country. I find it hypocritical.
Jesus was not a socialist and He NEVER espoused ANY socialist agenda nor decrees. He never MADE anyone help another person, He LEFT the decision to help to the people, after He made it clear that IF.... IF the person that reads His Words or (lucky enough) to hear Him speak WANTED (choice) to follow Him, obey Him and worship Him and thus be named after Him and be part of His Kingdom then they had to be charitable, it is part of the deal, however that is IF you want to be part of His Kingdom. The decision to partake in His Kingdom predates the decision to obey. He never forces, cajoles, humiliates people into helping out that is a BIG difference there.
If I don't want to be a socialist, the socialist will not ALLOW me to say no, the socialist WILL FORCE ME to obey the socialist agenda if I do not still, I will either be imprisoned and tortured or shot. The socialist does not give me a choice, the socialist takes my choices away... my freedoms away.
So no, Jesus was not a socialist and people who believe that He was or that think that what He had to say (or His apostles) has socialist inclinations do not understand the true purpose of His words. Although He I am sure would LOVE that ALL people would love one another and be charitable with all, He KNOWS that is not going to be the case for everyone. He has to be true to Himself, if He (His Father) has Creator is going to allow Free Will, then He will allow us to have the Free Will to decide to follow Him or not. Although there are consequences of not obeying Him overall, that is again a choice not a forceful way to get people to obey.
If people want to obey Him awesome, if not that is their choice and G-d WILL respect that. He wouldn't want someone to obey Him by force, if He wanted forced obedience, He wouldn't have gone through the bother of lliving a humble, poor life, filled with problems and tribulations, spreading the word of G-d and then dying and resurrecting for the salvation of all people (who want to be saved). He would have just come to Earth and RULE and be done. We wouldn't see disobedient people prosper in this world, they would probably wouldn't be allowed to walk the Earth to begin with and then that means there is no Freedom.
He did warn people against ALL form of greed. In fact He was asked by a person to MAKE his brother share the inheritance with him, and Jesus said that He wasn't going to get involved in that, that people should seek to guard themselves against all sorts of greed. The greed of the brother by not sharing AND the greed of the other brother by DEMANDING the brother to share. If the brother doesn't want to share that is his problem, regrettable, but it is his choice. If Jesus had gone to the house AND DEMANDED that an unbelieving person shared his wealth with his brother it would have gone against everything He taught. Had the brother been a believer I am sure Jesus' answer would have been different, He should expect a BELIEVER to share as that is part of the deal... Then AGAIN we don't know if the brother that asked for the money is a believer to begin with, he may have just asked Jesus because Jesus was famous and had power to control the elements and thought that because of His compassionate nature He would change the brother's will and again that is not Freedom if Jesus had done it and completely against His teachings.
Please let's not twist stuff around. You are accusing people of using religion to defend points of views but ALAS here you are doing the EXACT same thing!.... How liberal (hypocritical) of you.
The US is not a Christian Nation at least not anymore and I find it interesting that liberals EXPECT the entire US to practice Judeo Christianity BUT have an hissy fit when Jesus is mentioned in schools. So once again religion is utilitarian when it suits the liberal.
Put down the Kool-Aid and start reading:
Money, Greed, and God: Why Capitalism Is the Solution and Not the Problem by Jay Wesley Richards
Economic Facts and Fallacies by Thomas Sowell
Then maybe you will get a clue.
Actually, Jesus did espouse socialist teachings. HOWEVER, His message was that WE were to love and help one another - not the government. And, since you want to use His story, his forefathers (the Bible is pretty much the story of one family from Adam to Jesus, although many of us believe it to be the Word of God) said something like "Let him who does not work not eat". It also says that a man that does not support his family is worse than an infidel. Anyhow, please name for me the country that has been successful once socialist.
I hope I can see the movie. it would be only fair if you can critize a point of view after you have seen the other side of the coin. it seems that someone in the comments section ( Omar ) saw the movie already and knows what was not included. I wish I have a chance to see it. so I could write about it.
Im _ a _democrat, don't forget that it's quite o.k., as well, to allow babies to die after surviving attempted pre-birth murder.
Oliver forgot to put this part in his movie. http://play.cuatro.com/on-line/#/reporteros-cuatro-rec/ver/los-guardianes-de-chavez
That's why his movie sink like a rock because he is missing a lot of information.
It's proving quite a big story in some parts of the UK, mind...

BBCBreakfast Oliver Stone is no stranger to controversy, but now he's made a documentary about Hugo Chavez: http://bit.ly/9NddU2
r4today Director Oliver Stone: S American countries 'don't want to be under the American heel any more'. Full interview - http://tinyurl.com/2ujoyt9
In the spirit of his subject he should have not charged people to go see it. I have to wonder who saw it? It seems critics, but they get paid to watch crap like this. Stone is an idiot. I am over him. He is irrelevant.
You are over him? That sounds like you actually had some respect for him at some point. I never gave a damn about him because he always tried to act like he was above the fray. But he never was, & his version of the "truth" has been in question for some time. Then his defenders would say he was using "creative license" to help the movie along, I never bought it.
It could be that he was always this way just not as out with it as now, or it could be that he changed. Overall he had a time when his movies MEANT something, even if they were disturbing. It could be a good place to start with a conversation. Not anymore nor a long time at least not in the past 15 years or so.
Stone's note to self "Ollie-mentories" dont' sell. doh!
I like the term "create change" like that one guy said in the clip cause it always means "moving away from American freedoms and capitalism, and moving toward socialist and dictatorial control" - that's what I want. I mean really, why else do you think I voted for Obama (besides his penchant for allowing babies to be killed before birth and his hatred of Israel)?
Do I detect a note of sarcasm? hahahaha I love it!
