Stone’s movie about Hugo Chavez sinks like a rock

Oliver Stone’s movie “South of the Border,” an impassioned defense of the Hugo Chavez, has bombed at the box office at both Venezuela and the U.S..

A couple weeks ago we did a story about Venezuelan filmgoers complete rejection of Oliver Stone’s movie “South of the Border,” an impassioned defense of the South American country’s dictator. The total box office take during the movie’s first eleven days was a meager, but amusing $18,601.

Sure, you say, but that was in Venezuela where the Bolivar or Doubloon or whatever monetary unit they use is worth about 3¢. Just wait ‘til it gets to the United States. It’ll surely be box office gold here.

Wrong.

WWTD has the background on this muy grande box office bomb:

“South of the Border’s” $111,000-plus haul over three weeks of release seems beneath a director of Stone’s reputation.

The film can only be seen in seven theaters at the moment, and that’s despite heavy media play for the once great director. Perhaps theater owners know audiences will have little appetite for the film, which even liberal minded movie critics have labeled second-rate propaganda

$111,000 won’t pay for the cost of cocaine and champagne at the premiere party.

Consider it another sign that (a) Americans are rejecting leftist philosophy and (b) Oliver Stone is a moron.

Charles Krauthammer on one side. Chavez, Ortega, Castro and Obama on the other

Charles Krauthammer said “whenever you find yourself on the side of Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega and the Castro twins you ought to re-examine your assumptions.”

Charles Krauthammer asks the basic question, “What’s wrong with this picture?”

“Two weeks ago he refuses to meddle in a country where peaceful demonstrators are getting shot by a theocratic dictatorship. He doesn’t want to choose sides. And, now he’s eager to meddle on behalf of a president in Honduras who’s a Chavez wannabe who’s strong-arming his way to a referendum that has been declared illegal by his Supreme Court as a way to have a referendum to establish a assembly that will establish a new constitution that will be a Chavez-like dictatorship… Look a rule of thumb here is whenever you find yourself on the side of Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega and the Castro twins you ought to re-examine your assumptions.”

“If it’s dogmatic and autocratic, my support is automatic.” Barack Obama is starting to sound like Jesse Jackson.

Danny Glover and United Nations want you to apologize. And pay reparations. And worse.

Hugo Chavez leads and Danny Glover follows as they dance around the issues.
Hugo Chavez leads and Danny Glover follows as they dance around the issues.
Actor and activist Danny Glover, admirer of Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro, has plans for you.

Glover has an article in MiddleEastOnline.com titled “Race and the Obama Administration.” He excoriates the Bush administration for walking out on a 2001 U.N. anti-racism conference. He “urges the Obama administration to commit to participation at the U.N.’s Durban Review Conference against racism and intolerance – and to reclaim American leadership in the struggle for human rights.”

Glover paints a pretty picture of the peace and love and harmony that would have ruled the previous conference if only the evil Bush and the even more evil Israelis hadn’t walked out and ruined any chance of approval for the dandy resolution the delegates had written.

You already know everything you need to know about Glover. He pals around with Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez and never misses an opportunity to bash America.

The 2001 conference was an exercise in reparations lovin’, Israeli hatin’, American loathin’ and wealth redistributin’. You can read more about it here.

Just what you’d expect from Castro, Chavez, and Glover love.

Don’t invite Sean Penn and actress Maria Conchita Alonso to the same party. Especially if it’s the Community Party.

The actress rolled her eyes and groaned when she was asked about her former co-star. Then she really unloaded.

“It’s just that he has no clue at all what’s going on in Venezuela, praising Hugo Chavez who’s a dictator and a killer…” said Alonso, who was born in Cuba and raised in Venezuela. “I tried to put aside his being an amazing actor and his political views. He has no clue and he should just shut up about what he doesn’t know, because he doesn’t know.”

What happened when she saw Penn on television during the Academy Awards?

“…When his turn came I muted it and I started working on my lines. And then it was, like, are they done? Then he comes on stage and I was like, “Ughhhh.” (rolls eyes, makes face)

¡Ay, caramba! Beautiful and intelligent. Alonso, not Penn.
