One last piece of tyranny from Nanny Bloomberg before he leaves office. Tomorrow, Bloomberg’s controversial radical-left Board of Health will vote to make annual flu vaccines mandatory for all New York City children. After that, Bloomberg can go back to playing Mini-Me in Austin Powers movies.

  • When Bloomturd is outta office he is gonna have some serious control issues...He migth have to hire unemployed Occupoopers and order them around just to make himself feel good..plus they will have to attend daily lectures, and get inspections from General Bloomturd after they wash up....I scincerly hope Bloomturd walks down a street, and steps into an open manhole.........

    • And they just voted in a communist to replace Bloomberg, so now that they've been herded into a corral and grown accustomed to the enclosure, they're intent upon locking the gate. You can't teach cattle to do that - they're too smart.

  • A psychology professor once told the class that there out of 10 people who live in New York City about 6 suffer from some kind of mental disease or issue. Not sure how right he is, but if more than half of the population of New York City have mental issues this could explain why they vote for people like this and the new guy.

    Yes it is healthy for children to be healthy but the governmen should have no power to make things like these mandatory.

        • Because they've gone from mandatory vaccines against killer diseases like polio and smallpox to mandatory vaccines for things that are merely uncomfortable, like HPV and flu and chicken pox. When I was a kid my mom took me to my friend's house for an hour BECAUSE he had chicken pox. She WANTED me to catch it. (I didn't catch it.) When my daughters caught chicken pox as kids they were up and running around the house about 24 hours after they got sick. It's not that big a deal. If you want to get your kid vaccinated against chicken pox, fine. Parents who study the issue and decide differently have a right to make a different decision.

          • Flu can definitely be deadly, especially in children and the elderly. Getting the immunization doesn't ony protect you at least to some exptent, but it breaks the chain of transmission for vulnerable populations. And smallpox may not be deadly, but it causes lost school and work days, up to 2-3 weeks. I have rarely found anyone like your daughters who were essentially fine after a couple of days. More commonly they have significant fevers, and the itching pretty much makes them crazy. And again, the fluid from the pustules is contagioues. It can not only further spread the infection, but sets up others to be exposed and contract the disease as well. Sufferers are contagious long before the pustules appear, so the vaccine also breaks a chain of transmillission. Any one who gets chickenpox, is at risk for Shingles when they are older. Outrageously painful, and seconday infections are common in both, as the pustules burst open and create open sores. I understand what you are saying, but there really is sound medical reasoning behind the vaccines. In areas where hippie earth mothers have decided not to immunize their children, there have been serious outbreaks of measles and allover the country, whooping cough (pertussis) mmaking a comeback and young children are dying from it,

          • By the way, your shingles analysis is exactly backward. Preliminary studies suggest that kids who get vaccinated against chicken pox are MORE likely to get shingles as adults. It's hard to say for sure because the vaccine hasn't been around forever. Whatever, shingles is another disease that is relatively harmless. When's the last time you heard about anybody dying from shingles? I'm guessing never.

          • No. They only WISHED they were dead! It goes another way as well. If a younger person who has not had chickenpox, or been vaccinated, can get chicken pox from exposure to a person with shingles. I really, we would like to get to a point where the vaccines aren't needed anymore, but that is way in the future.

          • Didn't stop Obama from buying a shitload of it anyway. Disease doesn't exist anymore, there's plenty of vaccine stockpiled in case of germ warfare, but Obama decided to buy a half billion dollars worth of an untested new vaccine that's supposed to work after a person already has the disease. Nobody will EVER know if it actually works. Hell, it could be pure saline solution for all we know.

  • Well I think I'm gonna cut across the grain a bit again here. First, I'm skeptical of the whole autism obsession to begin with, and suspect 90% of it is rubbish to excuse poor parenting and reap government benefits. Second, coincidentally, I just had a brief conversation with wife & kids the other day on how the side effects can be worse than the actual flu. True, but on second thought, I don't think the side effects will kill you like the flu can. We are FORTUNATE to live in a world where flu does NOT wipe out a significant part of the population, as it did after WW1, when it killed more people than the War itself had. It IS news when we hear about large numbers of people dropping dead from flu, thank God and thank those big evil pharmaceutical companies.

    As for the particular issue: mixed feelings. Call me what you like, but I don't have any real problem trying to keep kids from getting sick, especially in a very dense urban environment where any disease is going to sweep through a nonresistant population like the proverbial wildfire. My hunch too is that if a mini-epidemic raged through one district and a few kids dropped dead, there would be quite a few complaints from this side of the aisle -- maybe? I think the bottom line is this -- if you're enjoying the benefit (admittedly questionable in NYC) of the public school system, you play by their rules. You don't like it, don't play: homeschool or go private. BTW, I dunno about you guys, but I remember getting vaccinated for polio in school -- private school -- and that's a scourge we don't have to worry about any more, isn't it?

    Say, here's a thought: segregation! Separate but equal facilities for any kids whose parents don't want them vaccinated! Then at the end of flu season, let's tot up the total casualties and see who made out the best, hmm?

    • One cannot blame vaccinations or any other one thing for autism. It has been around for ever, though perhaps not always recognized. Zillions . Of kids . Both here and overseas have received vaccines with no problems. But the diseases the protect us from definitely can cause death and lifelong disability. Getting FLU shots added to the roster would go far in stopping the spread of influenza, and associated bacterial infections.

      • Don't be so fast to dismiss the link between vaccines and autism. The vaccine companies have spent hundreds of millions of dollars battling the idea and still can't convince everybody. As for diseases causing death: that's true for things like polio and smallpox, not so true for chicken pox and HPV and flu. Newborn babies are now started on their vaccinations before they even leave the hospital... and as you know babies leave the hospital now almost immediately. It's ridiculous, not only for how early they start but for how many they give at once. Before you make a blanket endorsement of vaccines, keep in mind the most knowledgeable group of people in the world - U.S. medical professionals - inevitably resist getting flu shots. Doctors and nurses are notoriously reluctant to get the shot. Hospitals always end up trying to make them mandatory to get compliance. Why? I think because the medical professionals know how worthless it is. The idea that a vaccine company can predict next year's dominant strains of flu and concoct a cocktail that will prevent them is downright absurd.

        • Tomh, isn't it just a mix of the 3 most widespread strains in South America this past July anyway? Playing the odds maybe, but they're still guessing and it's hit or miss.

          • Something like that. And that is one of the reasons that one can still contract the flu after the vaccine. If you are exposed to a differnet strain than what was in the mix for that year, its pretty much like not having an immunization. A lot of patients do report a much lighter case if they have been immunized. Maybe placebo effect, I don't know. What immunizations are they giving newborns in the hospital? Since they are circulating their Mom's antibodies, that is useally ineffective. THat's why they usually wait a few weeks until the Mother;s immunity has been eliminatedm and for the immune system to start working

            Hepatitis B. Before they are discharged after being born. It's ridiculous.

            Then at 2 months the pediatrician will start with the mega-doses of combo vaccines - 7 vaccines at once that I know of here in Michigan. Keep in mind, the prevailing theory on what caused Gulf War Syndrome was mega-doses of vaccines, but how are you supposed to know when a 2-month-old baby is having a bad reaction to vaccinations? Someday I suspect people will look back at the abortion rate and vaccination schedules of 21st century America and consider us child abusers.

    • Experimentation on human subjects is, unfortunately, illegal, although somehow it's done all the time. Remember the black people they allowed to live with syphilis for decades? That was purely evil. When they do controlled/blind studies of a drug's effectiveness before giving FDA approval, that's basically experimentation with human subjects, but I guess the fact that who gets the drug and who gets the placebo are decided randomly makes it okay ethically. I guess. It's a hard sell for someone dying of cancer who's desperately hoping he didn't get the damn placebo. Personally, I think the argument about whether the flu vaccine is effective (an argument where I come down firmly on the NOT side) is irrelevant here. This is about tyranny destroying individual liberty, plain and simple.

      • Incidentally, since I mentioned FDA approval, I feel obligated to note that flu vaccines do not go through the FDA approval process. There isn't time. The vaccine makers simply warrant them safe and effective, and the FDA says, "Okay, you're good to go!" Then the federal government starts forking over billions of dollars for vaccines nobody knows work, and whose actual safety is problematic because they were never tested on human subjects. Thanks to a special law, flu vaccine makers are not liable in the court of law for damages caused by their vaccines.

        • I've never taken a flu vaccine, and I never will. I also never catch the flu. I'm a big fan, and long time user, of colliodal silver. Bacteria, virus, or fungus, I have no fear.

          • In the military, we were required to get the flu shot every year. I also, without fail, got the flu every year within days of getting the flu shot.

          • You may have had a mild case after getting unskilled virus. Or you were exposed to the flu a week or two before the immunization. Because I have asthma, and now a compromised immune system, I have had o ne Very year since childhood. Have rarely gotten sick and looking back to t h e few times I did get sick, it may have been a bad cold that'm progressed to my lungs.

          • Who knows. All I know is that I have only had the flu 2x in the last 26 years, but had it every year when I was in the AF.

          • More exposure from large populations in close quarters. That's why the vaccine is recommended for prison, health care workers,esp in clinics and ers, first responders and anyone in a dorm or nursing home type facility.

          • One has to be careful with the dosage and one cannot use it everyday as far as I am concerned. I just used it because I was congested, and I did a nasal rinse with it... am good. My tongue tip was burnt after not waiting for the food to cool down I put a bit of it on it a couple of times... am good. When I feel like crap take a little bit... am good. So yeah definitely have to be careful with the dosage there, but hey... as for me it works. If it could burn fat it would be a perfect thing LOL

            I've been taking it daily for over twenty years now, haven't turned even a little bit blue. The "Smurf" guy that was famous for a while had a skin condition, and thought that rubbing silver oxides on his skin and burning it in with a tanning bed would cure it. It didn't cure the condition, it did turn him blue, and sliver oxides are not colloidal silver.

            Silver oxides are a by-product of colloidal silver production, and I carefully strain them from my silver and throw them away.

            The medical "profession" would like us to think that silver does not kill bacteria, virus, or fungus. So why are there now bandages and catheters impregnated with it?

            If you want to know why the AMA is against silver, just follow the money.

          • I wasn't able to find anything about it not being used as much after 2008. Do you have any more info on that? My lady says it's some very effective stuff.

          • Scotsman, there's a topical burn cream called Silvadene which had some silver ( but was mainly a sulfa- based antibiotic ) in it - it was used extensively in burn units until 2008.

          • Normally about three to five ounces of fifty parts per million. If I have any sort of sinus or respiratory infection, I put it in an inhaler. My lady puts some in her humidifier.

    • The huge increase in diagnosis of Autism stems directly from the deliberate expansion of it's definition. I can see no other reason for the expansion other than money.

    • I worked there for a while in the 70s and again for a couple of years in the early 90s. I did not like the place but you could say I was there during the worst times, for the horrible Beame years and again for the tail end of the Dinkins years. It's a matter of personal preference I guess, I met a lot of people there who professed to love it and would not live anywhere else. Go figure. I have not been back since leaving that job in 1993 and I haven't missed it.

    • I've been back there a few times but avoided it. I flew into White Plains or Newark. I could care less if I ever go there.
