Actually we don't need oil if the greedy oil companies would allow for research on alternative fuels rather then lobbying congress to protect their monopoly. So yea we don't NEED oil but because of corporate greed we are stuck with it.

John , I think they should do research in the fuel value of unicorn farts. I've heard that unicorn farts help reduce global warming when its hot and helps increase global warming , when its cool . Who in their right mind would be against that . Only a " stupid " conservative could not see the potential in this research . All the "green jobs " !!!!!

I guess numbnuts doesn't realize the cost of everything he consumes, from food to drugs, are impacted by fuel costs through manufacture and transportation. His and obummers campaign for higher energy costs will impact the poorest and those with fixed incomes like social security, medicare, welfare, and unemployment the most.
There was a show on the History Channel a couple of years ago - about oil, the refining process and all the things derived from it. From asphalt to petrochemicals that go into plastics and other materials, drugs, coatings, solvents, not to mention fuels... it's amazing to realize how much stuff we take for granted would not be possible without oil. Even if substitute chemicals were available, the cost of the replacements would price a lot of the end products out of reach for most of us. If the show comes on again, I'd recommend spending an hour on it - I think it was part of their Modern Marvel series.
That's the problem with libthink. They have tunnel vision and can't see anything beyond the simplest ideas.
If you try to explain to them everything in our lives that require petroleum to produce, their little heads would explode.
We can start with something real simple though.
