Pope Francis fires outspoken critic of abortion and gay marriage. Okay, do we have enough info now to form a clear opinion about the new Pope? Pro-Marxist, anti-capitalist, and soft on the issues of gay marriage and abortion. Makes you wonder why we even need a Pope – we already have a guy like that in the White House.

  • What "centuries old teaching" was it that urged Catholics to ignore the plight of the sick, the cold, the hungry and the unemployed to focus on lobbying Washington to outlaw same sex marriage and abortion?

    What "centuries old teaching" was it that required popes to live in splendor and luxury while millions of Catholics (and non-Catholics) the world over lived in abject poverty?

    What "centuries old teaching" was it that said that moral hypocrisy wasn't really such a big deal, and that you can trust politicians to tell you what Jesus wants from you?

    I'm sorry, but there really are more pressing issues in the world than Washington's---or Rush Limbaugh's----latest talking point. Don't worry---this pope is still pretty conservative when it comes to church teachings. He's just trying to put issues into perspective that have been blown far out of proportion to serve the GOP's agenda. And, in doing so, he's not going against a single teaching of Jesus. Quite the opposite, in fact.

  • I confess that I admire Cardinal Burke and am disappointed by this move. An Italian Cardinal whom the media call "hard-line" was also removed. The media used to call Benedict "hard-line". Hard-line is when you won't throw teachings centuries old away for the latest liberal bumper sticker.

  • "Makes you wonder why we even need a Pope"

    Speak for yourself! He's not my Pope, probably because I'm not Catholic. However, the Catholics that I know are disgusted by this man. Yes, I said "man". I don't think that there are many Catholics left that believe he is anything more than that. They don't look at him as their leader and are quite angry that the non-Catholic world would project his words onto the followers of Christ.

      The Catholics I know are, for the most part, delighted that this pope is taking on some issues that badly needed to be addressed. How funny that you righties are so quick to throw the earthly Head of the Catholic Church under the bus, the minute he doesn't act as a rubber stamp for the right wing Republican agenda. :>D

      Now that we've got that cleared up, please tell me why you object to him spreading the Word of Jesus, rather than favoring the words of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter.
