Pope Francis to issue edict about Global Warming. Apparently the Pope has decided to ignore the Lord’s proscription on worshipping false idols.

  • I agree with the hope on this. Hopefully this will bring more awareness to climate change and global warming.

  • The Catholic Church and the leadership occasionally get science wrong or chose to ignore what real science is really all about. Anyone remember Galileo's house arrest?

    • Interestingly, the chief theologian of the Inquisition that charged Galileo was a Jesuit, like Pope Francis. Galileo was furious with the Jesuits for abandoning him. Here we are, almost exactly 400 years later, with the first Jesuit Pope ignoring the math again.

      (Okay, I find it interesting even if nobody else does.)

  • With the sole exception of their opposition to prenatal infanticide, the American bishops have ALWAYS been very left-wing and at the forefront of every lefty fad that came along -- during the Reagan Era, they were the ones on board with "Step One: US/USSR Nuclear Weapons Freeze" (remember those smug little bumper stickers?)

    I suppose any truly sincere Christian faith must take to heart the commands in Genesis to be stewards over Creation, and I suppose from a Christian (or Jewish) point of view we can have legitimately differing viewpoints on how that should be accomplished. Falling for such humbugs as the Global Climate Warming/Cooling Weather Weirding Syndrome is another question entirely.

    I think too that he makes a valid observation that "what dominates are the dynamics of an economy and a finance that are lacking in ethics. It is no longer man who commands, but money." Even as free-market enthusiasts, I think we must adhere to some ethical standard, or we devolve into Don Corleone, literally blowing up the competition. Even LAWYERS have a clearly-defined ethical standard, I don't think it is too much to ask of a businessman, although I do stop short of asking it as an actual legal requirement.

    Recall too, that one of Scripture's most misquoted passages actually reads "The love of money is the root of all evil." (Sorry, Ms. Rand.) We are told to pray daily for our daily bread -- not that we may have 10 years' strategic reserve of bread locked away in stock options, hedge funds, and municipal bonds.

    There certainly is a Scriptural basis for environmentalism, and it's a shame first that the Progressive Left has been allowed to co-opt it, and that we have rendered ourselves unable to offer a more conservative alternative.

    If we had signed on to the Kyoto Protocols, they would now be shouting, "Look! We saved the world! Now do as we say forever!"

    If you think voting doesn't matter, just think where we'd be if Gore had taken the White House.

  • It's always about the money, that is why I am not a fan of organized religion. The Catholic Church is like the U.S. Government, give us your money, we know better than you do what to do with it. And somehow the Pope and his merry band of wanna be IRS agents would benefit from this scam.
