Of course, potablewater in Michigan is now $5 a liter. They get you one way or another. The switch to river water was to save money. I would love to see how much they "saved,l" andhow much fixing this will cost.
$1.47 is the low mark so far in SW Ohio.
I remember the gas rationing and the lines back in the 70s. Fun times, especially when you waited in line and the attendant comes out with a sign saying "OUT OF GAS" right before your turn comes up.
It's $1.57 around here, no big surprise. Once The Fed quit playing their QE games awhile back, the dollar started to strengthen, so that's part of the reason.
Frackers keep pumping even though the price of oil has dropped below many of their break even prices but they have no choice because they still have to pay back money(debt) they borrowed to fund their operations.
The Saudis keep pumping because it's in their best interests to slow down the western fracking/oil sands machine. They also have to fund their own welfare state, which they expanded to keep the local yokels happy when the Middle East was going all Arab Spring everywhere.
Our economy is shaky, shipping is down, inventories are either expanding or sitting around and demand is usually lower this time of year to begin with. China's economy is shaky so demand is slowing there.
It's one big fvcked up mess. You can take this globalized economy that's evolved in the last 40, 50 years and stick it where the sun don't shine.
Still, WTI crude is at its lowest in something like 13, 14 years and gas is at its lowest around here since it started going back up in 2008 so enjoy it while it lasts.

I got my picture on the front page of the local newspaper back then, when I lined up at 10 pm to be first in line for gas the next morning, and someone saw me sleeping on the hood of my car. They called the paper, who sent out a photog to take my picture and get a little story on what I was doing.
Yep. Bonus: I lived in a one horse town with 2,000 people and there were three gas stations in town to service the entire population, with the next one six miles away. If you were low, you didn't risk the trip so you waited.
Living in Michigan, we usually pay more than most states. The excuse is that because we are a peninsula fual delivery cost more. ( bullshit)
But fuel always drops ( at least here) before election time. in 07 it rose to almost $5 a gallon, Pelosi got on TV, blamed Bush and fuel prices dropped until Obama's election. Very soon after prices went back up.
I've noticed over the years ( being old) that fuel prices always drop at election time especially when the Democrats are taking a beating at the poles.
Which leads me to conclude that Democrats and Big oil are lovers and the left controls fuel prices.
Remember after Obama's election the liberals pushed for $5 a gallon fuel. The title of the piece on CNN was "Why we should love $5 a gallon gas". I'm sure if you google it you can still find it.
So when are the chiselers in DC going to start screaming it's time to raise the gas tax again?

We are paying $2 bucks around here but that is part of the cost of living in the sticks.
I just watched the price drop to $1.779 here today. I would love to see $.999 gas again.
Cheapest I could find in the peoples socialist republic of Kalifornia was $2.19...But then we have "specially blended" gas for all the progs here....
A Texaco station a stone's throw from me has diesel at 2.07, but I still have a quarter tank, that should last me a week, so it can fall under two bucks.
I'm in Pa., and it's STILL over $2. Lowest I've seen was $2.09. That's because the taxes are so freakin' high, and because of the "boutique blends" that the wizards of smart here keep foisting on us.
Now that the oil companies are taking a beating, it's not hard to see which states arbitrarily run the cost up themselves...and then blame the oil companies.
NSS has the same problem in Kalifornicate. Because of their emission laws refineries have make a blend of gas only they use.

In our area, we have several gas stations within a mile or so of us and while I wouldn't say there have been outright price wars, there have been skirmishes with each of them usually ending up with the lowest prices in our immediate area. It usually only results in a few cents difference but they do jockey for position.
There's a Chevron station at my local intersection, with diesel prices usually around thirty to forty cents a gallon higher than the three other stations. Yet, people still buy it.

Don't remember, but I DO remember the odd even days and block long lines for fuel. Of course it was not $5.oo a gallon then. But I am sure that some whiz here can look up the prices and adjust for inflation if they were so inclined.
have neither the talent, nor the desire to do so, as the answer would, more than likely, just depress me.
But, on the plus side, even here in Germany, it is less than $10.00 a U.S. gallon, finally.
They had block long lines in the middle 70's after the Middle East quit selling oil that we helped them find and get out of the ground.
When I was a teenager living in Albuquerque. I remember buying gas for nineteen cents per gallon!
Oh, please! In th e late 60's with a good gas war you could buy for 3-4¢ a gallon!

Cigs in the vending machines were a quarter, so were prophalactys in the men's room machines. (snicker)

If I remember right my net check was about $95 per week. Since I still lived at home I was shittin' in tall cotton!
My take home from my first paycheck style job was $116, in 1977, and I had to work sixty hours a week to get it. And I WASN'T living at home.
LOL..You're a young'un flash! I'm talking 1970 and a 16 year old kid. I had quit school so dad put me to work running an old airtrac drill and helping him load powder. Back then construction companies could get away with hiring teens but they had to prove they could do the work just like anyone else.
I was 13 in 1970, and working in an automotive machine shop, but not getting a paycheck, it was all under the table, and I don't even remember how much.
Then, in '71, I stumbled into a job running the souvenir concessions at the original Irwindale Raceway, and was making more money than I knew what to do with. Then taken out of the underage workforce in '72 with a badly broken right leg, which I promptly broke even worse in '73. Graduated from High School in '75, and hit the road doing motorcycle stunts for a couple of years before I settled down to a real job.
