Professor: What America really needs now is a violent civil war to kill off the NRA. A professor of journalism, no less. Support peace and non-violence or WE’LL KILL YOU! Well, in his case, he wants the US military to kill you.

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • I know this is just a detail and probably not that important, but wouldn't the NRA folks have the WEAPONS to defend themselves and those around them? Just asking, ya know?

  • As a former military man, I took an oath to the Constitution, not an ideology, a president and not some idiot college professor. The million or so active duty military have done the exact same thing. I swore to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I hold that oath sacred and will still defend that piece of paper with my last breath.

    • I finally bit the bullet and did the lifetime membership like my dad did years ago, plus I sent a check to the NRA-ILA to help them out, I also happened to find a sign that goes into your trailer hitch that is in red white and blue, It says "Stick Gun Control up your" (picture of a democrat donkey) I get the evil eye on the way to work now, perhaps because I also added a bumper sticker that is from a gun shop in the foothills here in Kalifornia, it says this is my peace sign and shows a rifle scope crosshairs..I just love the assholes who stare...F*ck em.

  • There is nobody in the NRA or the Tea Party calling for the violent overthrow of the government of the United States. There is, however, a deranged professor of journalism who is calling for the government to wage war on its citizens.

    The irony of his words seem to have escaped Professor Swindell (what an apt name). He's calling for the government to violently attack and kill people whose "crime" is exercising their First Amendment rights by speaking freely and protesting excessive government taxation and misdeeds.

    A professor of journalism who cannot think or write coherently.

    It struck me as sad and frightening that former vice president Richard Cheney would go on television advancing his book and speak the unspeakable.

    Asked to defend torture, the great monster calmly stated that if he had another high profile terrorist, and torture was the only way to get him to talk, he would eagerly do it again and again. Where is the moral hazard?

    Torture is against international criminal law. It's against our own laws, and it violates the very principles we pretend to follow. How did America get so far off base? Why do we celebrate a war criminal with a book deal when prosecutors in the Hague would love to get their hands on him? More importantly, why is no one demanding justice, not even President Obama's Justice Department?

    Welcome to the new political landscape, where things that are genuinely wrong are excused instead of punished.

    Power brokers are no longer held to account. Richard Cheney will make guest appearances to cheers and applause around the country without so much as a peep about the damage he personally did to this country:

    • He misled us into a war in Iraq by lying about weapons of mass destruction. A war that cost American blood and treasure. Where is the outrage?

    • He abetted the National Security Administration's warrantless wiretaps on domestic computers and cellphones. The 4th Amendment says government can't do that without going through a judge first. To beat all, there are FISA courts that issue such warrants after the fact if the NSA would but feign to follow the rule of law.

    • He proudly boasts of waterboarding when civilized people around the world have deemed the practice unsound for interrogation purposes and inhumane as far as treatment. Are we so concerned about the economy or the next election that we have forgotten what this one terrible soul did? Worse, he's treated as a hero in some circles.

    • He endorsed and supported secret CIA prisons in countries where the rule of law either doesn't exist or isn't enforced. Our Founders would hang this guy from a tree after a short trial. Yet, he shows up at events in tux and tails to raised champagne glasses where he is the toast of the town.

    I will speak up. Justice demands her place at the table in the case of this miscreant. Black armored limousines and Secret Service protection cannot keep Cheney from her accusing finger. The loudest accolades of his sick supporters cannot drown out the cries of the 100,000 dead Iraqis from his war. Their blood screams for vengeance. And yes, even the terrorists who hate the United States deserve justice, if we are who we say we are and live the principles we all learn in grade school.

    So, we're left with how to right a wrong? First, we must return to the original premise. Wrong is wrong no matter who commits it. Second, great treachery to our beloved United States should be met with a fair trial and a swift punishment. Death may even be appropriate. Finally, we must execute judgment precisely because by not doing so, we enable the next tyrant who comes along to do the same or worse. Funny, we hunt down a tyrant in Libya, and leave alone one standing in our midst.

      This proves once again that tenured professors should not be. Does this professor allow open and free debate, or is it just one sided? There where two at Marshall who did when I was there. Dr Banks and Professor Smith. The good Colonal was one who would let you debate. Especially if you where 1 civil 2 on point and 3 had your facts.

      Sad to see The Herd has falling to the turds of the left.

      CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- It's no coincidence that the rise of the tea party has resulted in the decline of the U.S. sovereign debt rating. So, thank you, Grover Norquist-signing, know-nothing, do-nothing, cut-everything fools who held the nation hostage for months with a reckless policy of slash and burn.

      Your shenanigans have damn near ruined the country. All of us on the left will do our best to rid your worthless rears of their congressional privileges as soon as electorally possible. We make no apologies and we're calling you out.

      You support an end to Medicare and Medicaid. You want to abolish vital federal services and starve government of all tax revenue it needs to function as a civil society. Now, the United States has lost its prime credit rating because you wouldn't compromise with the president.

      When the nation nearly defaulted, you still voted no. When John Boehner pleaded with you to make nice with your enemies, the way elected leaders of character have done for 235 years, you balked.

      Do not tell me there is shared blame. Democrats wanted a $4 trillion deal but your insistence on protecting wealthy people, the true reason for your existence, wouldn't allow it.

      Do not tell me there is shared sacrifice. Democrats wanted revenue enhancements on the wealthiest members of our society, but you would have none of it.

      Do not tell me the nation should pursue your brand of domestic terrorism to deliver us from this economic malaise. You worship only at the idol of yourselves. You are neither a lover of country nor of kin. You are the emperor who has no clothes. You threaten like a dockyard bully. Your bile has poisoned our politics, our economy, our landscape and even our friends.

      People frustrated by the abuses of government have stupidly rallied to your cry. That you do not support term limits means your power agenda is no different from those who preceded you. Your stench has hit the jet stream and now lingers in the halls of power the world over where America the Beautiful is now a laughingstock.

      Every economics expert in the nation said it was playing with fire to dither on the debt ceiling. But, you, in your incredible insolence, knew better. Now, if there is any real justice in the world, there will be a severe consequence for your folly. Millions of Americans have lost retirement investments, mortgage financing and other financial opportunities all because you folded your arms and held your breath on the Washington playground.

      You have made a cesspool of my beloved country's tried and true form of getting things done -- compromise. Worse, you have crapped the nest for the rest of us. Jesus told us to love our enemies. All I can say is, you were sent from God all right, just as your hatemongering alleged-Christian followers say, but not for the reasons they say. The truth is, you were sent here to make me a better Christian, for I am having an awfully hard time not hating you. God bless America, and rescue us from the tea party. Amen.

According to these posts you have listed, this guy is a staunch commie democrat and lives in his own delusional Bush-hating world. Burn republicans at the stake for jaywalking, but excuse any crime of the democrats. There is no point in talking with such a small-minded cretin. The constitution is not important to such people, only their own personal hatred. But he's just the kind of unprincipled, cloed minded leftist I'd expect teaching journOlists.

          • To be fair, I found stuff where Swindell was talking up drilling for oil wherever we have it. I actually like his energy policy, but he seems like a less then good guy.
