Progressive racism is being forced upon the people through a sense of guilt, so the so called "enlightened" elites can profit from it, both economically and emotionality.
Modern American progressivism would die without the race card.
The "urban" folks think they're so much smarter than the "rural" folks, but when the SHTF, we'll see who is begging who to feed and protect them.
