Pussy Riot arrested in Sochi. Sure, it’s fun to watch the Olympics, but it’s important to remember that Putin is former KGB and Russia is not exactly an enlightened democracy, as exemplified by this knee-jerk police-state tailing and arrest of harmless punk rockers.

  • PR are wrapped up with that other bunch of crazy ladies who who run around churches topless throwing rubbers around. Eff 'em.

    • Some friends of mine just performed in "Jerry Springer: The Opera" in Seattle, and there were Christian picketers on the sidewalk - VERY CALM Christian picketers. My actor friends were giggling to themselves and posting snarky comments on their narcissism pages: "Oh! I'm in the big time now! I have fundamentalist wackos picketing me!"

      When asked about ACTUP dressing up as clown nuns, interrupting religious services, and throwing condoms at bishops, they go into their "Oh! Well, gay rights is an important issue" routine.

      Of course, none of them saw that lunatic woman invading the Christmas services in Cologne Cathedral, climbing up on the altar, topless, "I AM GOD" written on her torso, and screaming like a witch.

      They never think, "Gee, what if things were reversed? What if Christians burst into the theater, interrupted the play and threw things at us?" Nope. Narcissistic scum.

      • Actually, being a big fan of the Ramones, I kinda liked that song. I had never listened to anything from PR before. And they're MUCH nicer to look at than the Ramones.

        But,....aren't girls supposed to rip off each other's clothes when they fight?

  • Putin was never in charge of the KGB. He worked there until the coup against Gorbachev and quit when the soviets collapsed and joined with Yeltsin. He did run the Russian FSB (Security Service) under Yeltsin. About the only thing I like about Putin is he knows how to kick muzzie a**.

    • Never really collapsed, Gorbatchev just gave the bureaucrats and politicians the opportunity to bring about a regime change that served their interests well.
      From communism to "democratic" (who counts the votes?) oligarchy offered them much expanded cronyism and corruption, more power, more money and not that much work to do, I.E., those with good contacts doesn´t need to read.

      He just could not stop them from cutting their strings and dump him once he had lost their usefulness to them. Hungry dogs are only loyal until the hand that feeds them bleeds.

        • Well, they are pretty much the same thing in different countries. The big difference is that gorbatchev had much more opportunity in applying his well-intentioned reforms than 0 had so far.

    • You're right, he didn't run it. He just worked there. But according to Wikipedia he was a lieutenant colonel so he was more than just a paper pusher. What irrirates me is that I just read a column today that said he "ran" the KGB so I just repeated it. When I find that bastard columnist I'm gonna rip his typing fingers off.

  • Between Putin's bringing back Communist rule to Russia, and NBS's developing a new cult of personality around a shirtless, lion cub-taming Putin (and their inane coverage of the Olympics), I have not watched.
