Yes, it's bad when the opposition feels free to mock the President. When late night TV mocks him and fellow Democrats run away from him, it's disastrous. James Carville was right: it's time to PANIC.
0 in panic mode will not be a pretty picture. I think his most ardent supporters will turn on him at that point. Those of us on the right have no illusioins about our leaders; we know they aren't perfect. Leftists seem to have this need to worship their leaders and won't be able to handle learning that they have been worshiping an imperfect fallen angel. Result: By November, 2012, they will deny having voted for him in 2008.
