Reminder to commuters: trains do their own snowplowing. Waiting passengers at New York’s Penn Station learned that the hard way Wednesday morning.

  • What I find funny is that a large percentage of Amtrak riders commute to and from Washington DC. That might explain the genius level of the commuters.

  • To be honest though there really wasn't ANY place to stand that would have been safe that I can see. Standing THAT close is ridiculous but even in the middle or on the OTHER side still people got rekt.

  • Not Penn Station, but some NY suburb. City peeps might not have been quite so slow to react. Anyways, Penn Station is indoors, for the most part, and trains don't come rushing through as they all stop there.

    I do feel bad for the woman, since I'd hate for that to have been my mom. People have way too much faith in the safety of things.

  • Years ago, I was clearing the bottom of the driveway after almost a foot of heavy, wet snow. I was running a snowblower when a plow that I didn't hear coming up behind me because of the snowblower proceeded to slam what was probably a couple hundred pounds of snow into me just as I turned in its direction.

    I came up with some new curse words right afterward.

  • I am pretty sure something like that happens every year when the snow falls.

    And the same people never learn.

    • It's like the ice fisherman on Saginaw Bay here in Michigan. Seems like every spring when the ice starts melting the Coast Guard has to go out into Lake Huron and rescue some guys who are floating away on ice which has broken loose from the shore. And every year the Coast Guard has to patiently explain to the yahoos they are rescuing that they only rescue people, not pickup trucks and SUVs.

      Or the people who live on Mackinac Island who take their used Christmas trees after the holiday and stick them in the snow between the island and the mainland to mark a path for their snowmobiles, but seems like every year someone will push their luck and head across the ice too late in the season, fall through the ice, and neither they nor their snowmobile will ever be seen again.

        And that's how the herd gets thinned at the top of the food chain.

  • How dumb do you have to be to not see what is happening and keep standing on the platform? Common sense seems to be in short supply here. The woman who waits till the last second before moving is just too funny.
