Report: ‘Fat Tax’ Could Curb Nation’s Obesity Problem: It is not as though there isn’t some precedent for this working. After all look at how they’ve taxed jobs, capital gains and -by proxy- our savings accounts. And all of those things have certainly been curbed!

I think I just chuckled at the Taiwanese version of a Polish joke about the Japanese. Maybe. Or not.
Sorry to spoil the joke, but actually Americans tend to go to bed after a big supper. Japanese walk.
Japanese have a smaller supper and go out walking around with friends till late at night. They'd never go to bed or even lay down soon after a meal.
That's why they're thin - they walk everywhere.
It wasn't a joke at first, but I left it blunt because the idea of Americans magically becoming Japanese just seemed far more humorous.
Make them all walk to work. Then when they get there and realize they have no jobs you can make them walk home too. Force them to do this each day. Eventually you'll have Japanese people.
This is great, an article about curbing the obesity problem with a slideshow for the 10 most fattening foods of summer, one for Which Movie Foods Ruin Your Waistline (they all look tasty) inserted in the text, and an ad for cookies n creme treats from Dunkin Donuts right beside it. I love this country.
I'd be in favor of a 'fathead' tax, which would primarily apply to Progressive celebrities and Gaian cultists.

They tax drinkers, smokers, eaters...they should tax joggers and people that exercise - after all, aren't they emitting more CO2 than us lazy people?
Better be careful, next they will try to institute a lazy tax.

There are still a lot pf people who smoke and drink in spite of the "sin taxes" imposed on those products.
The obesity problem is behavioral and fat and lazy can not easily be legislated or taxed out of existence unless we open the gulags and put the sloth demographic to work or the government decides to put "offending" food and beverage companies out of business. Seems kind of drastic. Personal responsibility would be helpful so would good parenting. I see little of that advocated by the left since they want to be everyone's parents. Look at Bloomberg for an example.
It saddens me to see about 8-10 people trying to move a grossly obese person to hospital.
If, as the trend seems to be that more of the population is becoming obese, where, in the future would they get the slim able bodied people to move patients around.
While this is atacky comment, it IS true. And more and more transpot people are refusing to take these cases because they are either already injured, or fear they will be,
