• Percolated coffee is the most smooth and rich coffee there is IMHO. I have a percolator for power outages and even use because it tastes so good although takes longer and is pain to clean. The results are worth it.

    • I wouldn't get a glass percolator, buy a metal one instead. You can get a good one at any sporting goods store that will work on the stove or over a campfire. They are cheap, less than $20 bucks, and last forever. I have been using the one I have for over 20 years on every kind of stove, grill or campfire known to man.

    • I have a Bunn, and have had one for about 15 years. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It takes 3 minutes to make a pot, and it's always delicious. They are only about $100 and they have a 3 year warranty. My second one started acting up after 2 years and they just sent me a brand new one, no questions asked. But my first one still works perfectly - I just let my ex have custody of it :)

      oh yeah - and they still work during a power outage - at least as long as the water in the reservoir is still hot!

• The best bet is to use the filter holder and filter from your dead machine, and slowly pour boiling water over it while holding it over a cup or pot. Use a few more grounds than you would if you were making a full pot. Like 3 tablespoons of coffee for one cup of water.

  You really don't want to boil the coffee in water - it will be bitter and gross, even after it's strained. Unlike tea, you don't really want to steep coffee. You just want the hot water to touch the grounds. Sort of.

• HELP! Please, coffee maker died the other day and haven't replaced it yet, just can't get started today and need java, what's the best way to make it on the stove in a pan that I'll at lest be able to swallow and keep down?

  • Boil the grounds until you have coffee, strain through filter.
    Or you can just "cowboy up", pour the coffee into a cup, and strain the grounds through your teeth.

    Having done both throughout the course of my life, I can attest that while the second option works in a pinch, the first is preferable.

      • Put about 1/4 cup of coffee in a stockpot that holds 5 or 6 cups of water. Bring it to a boil, then it is up to you. The longer it boils the stronger the brew will be.

        If you don't want a lot of grounds in your cup take the pan off the heat, let it settle a couple of minutes, then flick some cold water off your fingertips into it. Or, just pour it through a regular coffee filter.

• I so disagree! This was very effective management. The scheme kept 0bama and many other democrat party members in good standing in office. This was truly hardball, illegal hardball but it got the ends they wanted. I think the Tea Party would have made much greater inroads and killed off the senate majority and 0bmama in 2012.
