What is key in this situation, I believe, is there is a regular minimum wage, then a minimum wage for servers, which is WAY less. Now, if I am understanding this article and the MW is for non-servers, this is going to have a devastating impact on the servers.
Looks like there may be a surplus of waiters and other restaurant workers. More jobs lost thanks to the democrat's and the unions who want you're money.
Remember how democrats hated trickle down economics? Now they have invented shit splatter economics....and we are the recipients.
Mandatory 16% surcharge? I'm walking out of there the minute I see this on the menu.

Many restaurants automatically add an 18% gratuity for parties over a certain number. This keeps the wait staff from being stiffed by a cheap person, when they bust their butts for a large party.
It would have to be posted somewhere else too. I have no issue with the large party add on and I tip according to quality of service. But if I get a bill with a surcharge that isn't posted anywhere, I'm probably going to raise so much hell that my entire bill be comped. Or I'm going to jail. ;)

Hah. I'm not near as bad as my wife. I've seen her lay waste to more restaurant managers than I care to remember. When she gets done with them, we not only get comped, we usually get free gift cards to boot.

All I can sat is, if I eat out, and the service is decent, I tip 20%-25% at a minimum! Even if I go to something like a Denny's and the bill is under $20, the minimum tip I leave is $5. I've walked out of a place many times where the bill was around $12 and left a $5 tip. This minimum wage deal is going to hurt the good, hard working servers, and reward the slugs.
OH WAIT!! This is a Democrat idea, right? So, it does this by design!
