Retracting “Mr. Daisey and the Apple Factory”

Retracting “Mr. Daisey and the Apple Factory.” A devastating hit piece which exposed Apple as a brutal taskmaster overseeing near-slavery conditions in its Chinese factories turns out to be… total bullspit. “I’m not going to say that I didn’t take a few shortcuts in my passion to be heard,” says the liar, “My mistake, the mistake I truly regret, is that I had it on your show as journalism, and it’s not journalism. It’s theater.” Well, that’s what most journ0lism is these days.

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • Apple has over 100 million surplus so they are sending funds to their stockholders and that is fantastic. I think it is so weird they are coming at Apple now that founder is dead. What is uup with that?

    • I think that liberals getting their hate on for a business is not new. However, I think that if it were any company than Apple, doing nasty business in any country other than China, that this story would have been killed. In fact, my guess is that it being Apple was the ONLY reason that the story got retracted.

      • After all I am sure that considering its relationship with the Administration, someone may have gotten a call.

  • Only 2 programs I ever listen to on NPR, car talk and A prairie home companion....and no I do NOT donate. I want them for "free".

Actually I do donate, every time I pay taxes, so I do NOT feel bad for listening.

  • Daisey's actually right. That entire program -- "This (un)American Life" is just smug buzz elevated to performance art. His lies fit in perfectly with the "self-love through interpretive dance" crowd at NPR, which is exactly why they put it on the air. They (NPR) had no way of detecting any falsehoods in his propaganda piece, because that's *exactly* what they believe.

The truly funny part is NPR frantically doing the Major Renault: "I'm shocked, *shocked* to discover that we are producing leftist propaganda here." bit.

I hope Daisey sues NPR for bullying him, and hurting his precious self esteem. I bet the poor baby feels betrayed.

  • On CBS this morning they "kinda" retracted the part about 12 year old workers, but they also said they had verified all the other parts of the story.....Buried between a couple commercials..Even when libs are wrong, they won't admit it. They did say the fat guy who came up with this might have embellished parts of the story..Ya think?

  • Dan Rather could not be reached for comment. If so, he would have probably found the story to be true but not factual. Libs can do that, ya' know.

  • Daisey has been plucked! In rushing to be first in journo-theater, he found the stage to be rather crowded.

    Break a leg, Dude!
