Especially when the person whining about being insulted just got done bragging about producing "turds" outside the ER.

            If you were in fact a real nurse, you wouldn't have gone there with your comments. You seem to think you are all knowing, and try to analyze people here, yet you completely miss the boat when someone is trying to make light of a serious situation, to keep the possible consequences off their mind.

          • Poopajoe, I'm afraid you don't know much about "real nurses," or you wouldn't make such a statement. In fact, lacerations are pretty common in the ER. They can look really scary to the patient, but in most cases they don't require more than prophylactic TDAP, wound care, suturing and dressing.

            It's also true that ER nurses have a weird sense of humor. It's inevitable, for people who work with blood and guts and sepsis and gangrene and splintered bones and body fluids as much as we do. Contrary to popular public opinion, we're not angels, and sometimes we make light of scary situations.

            Let's be realistic here: anyone who jokes about "turds" as much as you do is not likely to get offended over a joke about getting into a fight with a toilet. And do you know what? You look 100 times more ridiculous getting all huffy over a toilet joke, than you would if you just lightened up and took the comment in the spirit intended.

      • Relax, Poopajoe. For what it's worth, I'm sorry to hear about your accident, and from your reaction to my comment I realize it must have been stressful. Those deep lacerations can be pretty traumatic. But let me remind you that you're the one who introduced levity into the situation by crowing about having "turds" outside the ER. In truth, you didn't sound as if the injury had been very serious.

    In any case, Texas (29.6) has a higher rate of rape than Illinois (27.7). Not too surprising, considering their attitude toward women. But, golly gee, didn't you claim that lax gun laws deter violent crime? Robbery (151.2 in Illinois) is lower in Texas---at least, reported robbery is---but, considering that Texas has some of the weakest gun control laws in the country, I'd expect it to be much lower. Didn't you righties claim that bad guys wouldn't dare try to rob innocent people in a society where anyone and everyone might be packing a gun?

    Bottom line: giving everyone an arsenal isn't quite the crime control panacea that you righties were led to believe it is. And neither is the death penalty, which Texas seems to apply at the drop of a hat.

      I'm having a great TURD day!
      I need something to make up for the trip to the hospital to stitch up my left calf and muscle that I cut on a broken toilet tank today. I got my first turd outside the ER after the stitches.

        • It hurts, but not too bad. I'm stiff because there are stitches in an area that is used to flexing a lot, so it stresses if I move too much. I am having a shooting pain, like a needle running down the leg when I straighten it out and bend over. It's tough to describe, but I think a nerve is restricted by the wound and stitching. The cut is about 3"-4" long and took 2 stitches in the muscle, 8 stitches inside, and 13 outside to close. I just need to be vigilant about infection.

Do you take it as a pet and feed it? Do you encourage it to stick around and perhaps invite more of its fly friends to come and stay in your house?

  • I know exactly how to bring the violence in Chicago to a screeching halt.
    Take that $4 billion and use it to supply the 5.2 million Cook County residents with $500 worth of guns and ammo. With a well armed populace, the violence would mysteriously drop to the levels of Texas.

    What to do with the other $1.4 billion you ask? Why, give it to me for coming up with the idea!

      Only the very very ill who are more than likely suicidal, will start something and even if they successfully hurt or unfortunately kill someone, the next shot will be towards that person and that solves the problem right there. Cops can then swoop in 15 minutes later to take the body away. Problem solved. No money wasted on trials and lawyers.

            Come on, Poopajoe, that "armed society is a polite society" BS might have played well on old reruns of Wagon Train and Bonanza, but this isn't a Hollywood soundstage. In reality, those who intend to shoot or intimidate others DEPEND on the element of surprise for it to work. This man wasn't fooling around. Even if one or more of those family members had been carrying a gun at that time, it's unlikely that s/he would have been able to draw, aim and fire before he shot.

        Leftards never think beyond their noses when it comes to guns. They all think it will be the Wild West, when in reality, it will only take one or two incidents where gang bangers, or holdup men, are shot dead by several people in the area of their stupidity, to get the message across, and the violence will be greatly reduced. These thugs are getting away with whatever they want, but when they know they are likely to run up against a number of armed and fed up citizens, they will be looking for another line of work.

          The best thing to do is to encourage the 2nd amendment: far beyond rights to hunting which is not what is written for, and definitely to keep a crazy tyrant/government in check and in my opinion most importantly because it is the real reality of everyone's life, to discourage crime and random shootings. It is common sense.

          However if we keep waiting for liberals to get common sense we will be waiting forever.

          • As I said before, Kimmy, owning and flaunting a gun doesn't make a lay person into a law enforcement officer. What it does do is encourage the less emotionally stable to resolve conflict with a deadly weapon. But that's hardly likely to improve society.

            The idea of "keep(ing) a crazy tyrant/government in check" with firearms is just stupid. The days of fighting wars with one-on-one firearm combat are long gone. You've been sold a romantic image: "If you carry a big gun, it will make you look cool and tough, and you can fantasize being a police officer without actually doing the work to earn the credentials."

          I've said it before and I'll say it again: owning guns doesn't make a lay person the equivalent of a professional law enforcement officer, any more than owning a crash cart makes you a paramedic. The NRA's radical policies are designed to achieve only one thing: to line the pockets of gun manufacturers and retailers.

      Apparently the right wingnut crapaganda you tend to frequent didn't tell you that 85-90% of Chicago's violent crime takes place in a relatively small (and economically depressed) part of the city. Or that Texas is hardly a haven of law and order, despite their addiction to lax gun laws and the death penalty.

        • How about comparing Cook County, which was what I used in my example, to ANY other county in the US? Since it's the murder capital of the US, I'm sure that using the comparison I referenced, instead of trying to use the entire state's average, will be much more accurate. But then, we know that "you-know-what" did that just to spin the statistics.

            First, where are you getting the idea that a city's mayor establishes gun ordinances?

            Second, has it ever occurred to you that most urban violent crime occurs in ECONOMICALLY DEPRESSED neighborhoods? It's not just a bunch of affluent city residents, who wake up one day and say, "Hmmm, I think I'll start a gun fight on the south side today." The vast majority of Chicago's gun related deaths tend to occur in just a few very poor and violent neighborhoods.

            Third, has it ever occurred to you that, even if Chicago proper has strict gun laws, anyone who wishes to circumvent the law need only take a ride over to one of the nearby suburbs, where guns are readily available? Did it not occur to you that the NRA's efforts to flood the nation with guns would also make it easier for troublemakers to get them?

            Fourth, most large American cities do have Democratic mayors. That's partly because cities are ethnically diverse, and today's Republican base is primarily old (and old thinking) white rural people. Hence, your attempt to link violence with the political affiliation of the mayor is a pile of BS.

            Sounds like the right wing propaganda machine saw YOU coming. You could at least have tried to offer a more original argument. ;>)

          In this case, your headline was very misleading. No, the CDC report didn't "blow up in (Obama's) face." Obviously, suicidal deaths related to firearms is quite high in this country, partly because of the easy availability of firearms, even to the mentally ill, and partly because of the fact that, up until very recently, many mentally ill Americans had no health insurance. Which boils down to the same thing: too dang many guns, especially in the hands of people who should never be trusted to carry deadly weapons.

          Your own article did admit to "more than 335,600 people who died from firearms related violence in the United States." How many needless deaths have to occur by gunfire in the U.S., before you lemmings say it's too many?
