No such luck, Dawkins is smart but not THAT insightful.
Dawkins is smart enough to know that he lacks the infinite knowledge required to say there is no God. He has now found that many of his (former?) fans lack the knowledge to know that when it came to Ahmed's clock there was no "invention".
He's not even questioning that Little Mo is innocent of pulling a dry run or trying to make people nervous, he's just saying the kid is a non-genius prankster who pulled the guts out of an off-the-shelf electric clock and pretended he "invented" it.
That is the most absurd part of all of this. He is, like you say, just pointing to a demonstrably correct fact (that the kid is a tech plagiarist and this fact calls into question everything he has told us since everything he told us was predicated on a lie) and being eviscerated for it.
Personally I think the kid was trying to get attention for being an "inventor". Meanwhile his dad knew, as most anyone with a set of eyes would know, what was going to happen when his son brought the device to school; and so encouraged him (maybe even suggested putting the device in a briefcase type pencil box) knowing full well that when the inevitable occurred it would be the biggest payday of his social justice ambulance chasing career.
If he was interviewing for a job in government, he would have been hired immediately!
Sadly this kid is probably going to get hired immediately no matter where he applies. Nobody is going to want to get called a bigot for not giving Ahmed far more than his talent calls for.
