  • Very true, Santelli's rant was a major catalyst for the current mainstream Tea Party.

The current state of Washington's spending is absolutely out of control, but it's been out of control to a lesser degree for decades. Bush ran on a platform of a small and humble government, then essentially doubled the national debt. Both the Republican and Democratic party have become the party of big government, eroding civil liberties, and less financial freedom, they just bicker back and forth about to which degree.

  • longest. year. EVER. And yes, it was absolutely Santelli who set it all off. Had he not did the American people a service by telling the truth that day, we absolutely would not have a Tea Party movement in this country. What he represented was the everyman investor who felt that way but wasn't bold enough and didn't have a platform to speak the truth. His boldness changed everything.

    • If I'm not mistaken, Ron Paul's Tea Party was a one-day event.

No one started organizing grass roots, city-by-city Tea Parties until Santelli let loose a year ago.
