RIP: Peak Oil – we won’t be running out any time soon

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • If one is trying to drive an economy and a nation into the ground in order to create chaos, why would you even try to enrich that nation with an energy policy based on reality instead of fabricated "hockey sticks" etc..

  • Peak Oil was based on projections of easily obtainable oil, but since then massive new deposits have been found almost everywhere. Too bad "Dear Leader" and his environmental gestapo the EPA refuses to develop them.

  • no no no...you've got it all wrong. we don't have any oil in america you see we are completely dependent on middle eastern oil,but if we could only harness the power of pond scum we'll be headed in the right direction! i didn't know that it was actually possible for obama to become so dumb to the point where he can't form words only drool. the "iranian drama" is manufactured bullshit! it's the liberal assholes that prevent us from being independent of foreign oil! thank your lovely EPA and all the other commies and red-diaper doper babies in suits now working in DC for that. who canceled the keystone pipeline? who is against fracking? who banned drilling in the gulf, but allowed and still allows other countries including commie pig nations such as cuba, and venezuala to keep drilling? you know the answer already my friends, and if the hacks in office really had their way everyone would be driving those god damn chevy volts where you get 40 miles per charge!? ha ha ha ha...continue to waste tax payer dollars trying to dictate what the consumer wants will end up and always end in failure. we are living in the USSA right now..."socialism lite"where everyone is equal in everything and success is measured not by merit, but by collectivism, and the good of the group. fuck the group, power to the individual!

    • There is now a surplus of oil in the US. We are now an EXPORTER of oil. Oil companies are making record profits. Yet they can make even MORE profit by selling it to the highest bidder.

Any oil extracted from US soil, be it ANWAR, offshore, or in National Parks will be put on the open market to the highest bidder (read China)

And yet the Republicans see fit to continue the subsidies to oil companies.

        • Valero Energy has a refinery near the Eagel Oil Shale formation. It produces some 100,000 tons of fuel. Until recently, all that refining was done one foreign oild, cshipped into Houston and transported to the facility. Since the Eagle Shale operation opened, they are refining 70-80% domestic oil, and only 20-30% imported. And that's dropping. THey expect to be refining 100$|% domestic oild in the near future.

      • Where did you get that? I know we're a net exporter of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel but that's a totally different animal. If you'd honestly like to know why, I'll try, if you're just parroting slogans I fell for it and should be ashamed of myself.
