  • Had to dig this out of the back to post a personal review of the movie. I was able to view a pirated copy of the flick. To say this movie sucked would be an insult to all that sucks, has sucked and all that will suck in the future. The narrative parts sound like an 80 year old man trying to read a manuscript in dim lighting without reading glasses. There's really not even any interesting cinematography to make it appealing. Anyone here watch Gravity? It sucked, but was visually stunning for the most part. We don't get that in this movie. Just an old man dottering about on a boat and life raft, all the while trying to be made to NOT look like an 80 year old man. Attempts to mask this with creative cutting and editing fail. Don't waste your time or money on this one. If you plan on pirating, don't waste the bandwidth!

    • You couldn't get me to a Redford movie on a bet. In fact, I haven't been to a movie in a long time. I use Red Box or Netflix to see what I want. I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices they want at a theatre.

    • Yeah the heavy makeup on men like Redford in movies is so sad. They may have gotten away with it back in the day but with the clear screen and high definition and all of that it is impossible to hide age. I won't see the movie not even pirated because I certainly have better things to watch but I do commend you for taking it for the team so to speak.

  • I boycotted Hollywood many years ago, about the time that I realized that I was paying them to call me stupid. I don't go to movies, I don't watch their award shows, I don't care who they marry, what they wear or what they have to say. I do find it amusing that RR, a man's man for the left, is whining like a little girl.

  • As a sailor I was looking forward to seeing the movie he's referring to, but it never came to my area. Or hasn't come yet. One or the other. So I can sort of sympathize with what he's saying: some movies seem to get wide distribution even though they're dogs, and other movies mysteriously disappear before most of us even get a chance to see them. That being said, I suspect the movie is going to irritate me because Hollywood always screws up the practicalities and I'm sure I will be irritated by everything they get wrong. Right away I'm suspicious about a sailboat that isn't on the bottom of the ocean that can only drift - how does that happen? I cannot imagine a real sailor whose boat still floats - no matter what condition - not being able to make it move at least somewhat... and not knowing which direction he wants to go once he gets moving. According to the synopsis of the movie, the boat can only drift and the sailor isn't sure if he's drifting in the right direction. WTF?

    • Never saw it around here either... but probably because the movie was terrible and probably because people didn't want to be bothered with it... With that said a lot of the movies were limited distributed and they were still Golden Globe nominated and Oscar nominated as a lot of these nominations happens for weeks or months they actually go out nationwide. So yes he may have a point but his movie was toxic so he has all the blame on it.

    • My stepfather still uses a compass and sextant to get his position on the sailboat, although he is willing to use a special calculator to do the math for him.

      He could do the math himself though...and will in a pinch.

      • Ask your stepfather if he can imagine not being able to get a sailboat to move. He'll probably laugh. From the synopsis I get the impression that Hollywood thinks a sailboat that has lost its electrical power is helpless. Good grief. It's a SAILboat!

          What does this have to do with Oprah being a "negro"? NOTHING. The worry here should be that the country is becoming socialistic or communist, that the country is loosing its moral backbone, that the country is going towards a freedom less nation.             You know, during the last two presidential election cycles I noticed that there seemed to be a LOT of paid provocateurs on the different comments sectons. Typically they cost along until someone says something that seems outrageous. THEN, all of a sudden, they would rise up in a huff of indignation, supposedly seeking a "balance" or "moderation" or "a calm voice" in the flurry of comments. Often they traveled in pairs, etc., supporting each other - drowning out anyone else -- eating up space.

            It seems to me that when a certain demographic within a population only allows it's own demographic representatives to utilize a word or phrase and ban its use among other demographically represented groups within a population it is inherently -ist. As for not seeing color, well, I used to try for that idealism, and found it was a crock.

            If one wishes to ban words, then one would find they're less American than others, regardless of the words they'd ban. And the use of adjectives marks someone who likes to give depth to their writing.

          First of all what EXACTLY does Oprah Winfrey has to do with this thread or post? She has NOTHING to do with this thread or post. This thread has to do with Robert Redford. If you want to make a comment about race baiters there are TONS of people you could have referenced or else reference general liberals that are race baiters. You referenced TWO Black women as race baiters when there are also Males Black and White LIKE Robert Redford (whom the thread is ACTUALLY ABOUT) who are race baiters.

          Oprah is a race baiter and so is Michelle. Accurate to point that out.

          We really have no knowledge that would make the term "skank" accurate that is only an opinion based on personal hatred against them. I personally wouldn't call them skanks.
          They are both Black but that is OBVIOUS and there is NO LEGITIMATE reason to bring that up as a negative.
          Using the term "negro" is beyond insulting because it is a way to avoid using the other n word, while bringing up the brown skin as a negative. Brown skin IS NOT a negative and since it is obvious that they are dark skinned or brown skinned it is an unnecessary use of the word.

          How would you like it if I were to refer to white men as crackers or as honkies or as the white fat this or that person? It is unnecessary. If I were to say of Redford he's a white/cracka' fugly liberal , what is the POINT of using the word white/cracka'? It is pointless unless I am trying to make his skin an issue and a negative.

          People who use other people's skin color as a negative are dangerous to the Conservative/Libertarian movement. If people are going that route it just give ammunition to liberals. I find it disgraceful that anyone would think this guy should be accepted around here. This is not the only time he does things like this. He keeps some comments on the middle ground, extremely violent and disgusting in others and then when he is called on it, he leaves for a while and then comes back. When everything is about someone's skin color there is a problem. These are all tactics of the liberal trolls.
