    • It can't be discrimination, they didn't deny them coverage, they just made it way too expensive.
      Maybe that baker in Colorado should have charged the gay couple $300,000 for their cake, then they wouldn't have had a complaint, because they would have refused to buy from him.

            What really suck is that it is often people who move from dark blue states like NY or MA & they move to FL, NC, or whatever, & then procede to vote for the same dumb sh!t they fled from. These are people who don't understand why the places they are from went into the gutter. Glenn Beck has said if you are moving for "economic opportunity", don't. But if you are moving for the freedom, then do it. Because it is freedom that gives you the economic opportunity, & if you get that, then you should move.

          • Beck says some really great stuff. It's just that he needs to work on his delivery. My wife can't stand him because of the way he says stuff, not what he says. She thinks he's nuts because of his maniacal delivery. I think he's great.
            Her observations were from when he was on FOX and I used to watch him every night. I can't even get The Blaze on my cable system.

            Move forward (no pun) to 2000. What has always fascinated me, not withstanding your hanging chad, is NH. Do the math, 4 electoral votes, always bluer than blue, and they tilted it.

            What these maps tell me is the Rep. had it, abused it, and and lost it and blame the "base". Go figure

          • 2000 shows just what's wrong with the electoral college.
            Gore only carried 21 states, and lost by only 4 electoral votes!
            What this map shows me is another justification for disbanding the union and allowing the individual states to become their own republics, maybe allowing for a few like minded states to join together.
            A country this size, with one central government is a big mistake. Look at the only other examples of something this size being controlled by one central government.
            Russia, China, Canada, USA. Out of those, we're the only country that isn't socialist, and they're trying to put us there. We would stand a much better chance of avoiding that if we were able to separate.

          • I'll try to answer your question. This coming from a Bible belt Christian point of view. If the established republicans and conservative media hadn't steered the nomination away from Huckabee toward McCain, Obama would not be President. Huckabee was a grass roots movement out of nowhere. Why? Because he appealed to one of the largest voting blocks in this country, the religious right, and was a great debater. The MSM was scared to death of him and started their onslaught of negative press and to my surprise all the conservative talking heads fell right in. The same happened with every Christian republican candidate that rose in the last primary until the one the elitist and talking heads wanted and thought could win, a Mormon. The vast majority of the Bible belt consider Mormonism a cult. I voted for him but he lost a lot of the Christian vote. If we have a chance to turn this country around it will take a grassroots, charismatic TEA Party type of campaign to draw the Christian vote without the elitist republican leaders and conservative media tearing it to shreds, just like they are doing now.

          • I read your column and found it very informative. Makes me wonder why there is such a lack of evangelical/protestant national leaders. I know progressives hate us and have a lot of influence over voters through the MSM. What I think hurts protestant republican candidates most are the smear campaigns started by the media that drive voters to a vulnerable candidate that they want their democratic candidate to run against.

          • I agree with you completely, especially about Mitt's Mormonism. I wrote a column about it - http://jpattitude.com/120908.php - about his religion and about how the powers-that-be have frozen Protestants out of the nation's leadership completely. Not just evangelicals, but Protestants of every stripe.

            Like you said, every time a religious Republican started to gain some ground during the primary season, the powers-that-be crucified him (or her). I think that's why the MSM went apeshit on Sarah Palin four years earlier, too.

          • Good point. He hasn't had a chance to show his fiscal side, and that could have been what the big problem was.

          • Huckabee didn't appeal to many fiscal conservatives. He may not be as conservative as I or most would like but he had charisma, was a good debater and had the Christian vote sewed up.

          • I'll tell you what. I knew nothing about Huckabee, but when his name came up on a discussion board, one of the staunchest conservative voices there went off the rails! He lived in Arkansas and hated Huckabee. I don't remember the specifics of his distaste, but he convinced us that he would be a mistake.
            Now that I know more about him, I think the guy was off base.

Christie will never excite the base and left-leaning independents will just vote for the admitted liberal and avoid the guy who lacks the political courage to admit he is a big government statist.             First, he won't energize the base, but he will get out the leftists, they love him, as evidenced by his huge win in this last election.
            I'm not saying he wouldn't win, but if he does, we're possibly worse screwed than if we get another Dem. His winning would prove that the people no longer can tell the difference between the parties.
