Sally Ride family outs her posthumously

Sally Ride’s family outs her posthumously. According to her sister, Bear Ride, “who identifies as gay,” Sally didn’t hide her relationship with another woman, but if she didn’t announce it when she was alive and none of us cared about it when she was alive, why are they making it a topic of discussion now?

  • My guess is the sister is making noise to get her 15 minutes, maybe a book deal or at least a free trip to NY to sit with the talking heads. Shameless and a disgrace to the memory of a trailblazer.

What's next, Washington's great-great-great... grandson saying that false teeth wasn't the only wood GW had in his mouth? Betsy Ross was a TS?

Geesh gay folks - give it a friggin' rest!!!!

Yeah, that's purty much what I thought as well.

  • '' Anderson Cooper 812 '' on CNN came out because his show is dying and now he can claim bigotry the reason instead of the fact he sucks.

  • I saw this and was like "meh". Quite frankly I'm a little pissed at her family for trying to make it an issue.

          • Oh well, I missed the turd in the room. Doesn’t look like I missed anything important.

Sally didn’t hide her relationship with another woman

Yea? So what? Does it mean anything to anyone but the activists?

Like greenfairie said, she didn’t hide it or make a big deal out of it, so why does her sister have to make it an issue? If Sally didn’t see the need, then Bear should respect that.

          • That's the part that is most distasteful to me. Sally Ride obviously wanted her privacy, while at the same time not hiding her relationship. That was how she lived her life, and to immediately turn her private life into a 3-story high blimp before she is even cold is rude and smacks of activism. I would seriously doubt that Ride was ASHAMED of her lifestyle choices, so waiting til her death to "out" her seems so deliberate and so crass.

But gay activists have no problem dragging anyone out of the closet - kicking and screaming if necessary - to try to validate themselves. They miss the whole point. Ride was a successful, intelligent, respected woman and NO ONE CARED about her sexuality. Isn't that supposed to be the point?

Edit: this was supposed to be a reply to Poppa.

  • No such thing as a homosexual hero or a heterosexual hero. A person who acts on their own to save a life is a hero. It didn't take much to figure which team she played for...

  • All of my friends that are gay are a lot younger than I am, so chances are I'll die before they do. But if something should happen to change that, I'll remember them as the wonderful people that they are, not who they slept with.

  • Ms. Ride came from the old school, where you didn't necessarily hide it but you didn't make a big deal out of it either. She had no agenda. To the public she was an astronaut and a scientist first. And that's okay by me.

To gay activists, you can't possibly honor or say something nice about Sally Ride's accomplishments if you're not on board with their agenda. She's "theirs" now and not anyone else's, just another little thing that makes me detest these activists even more.

  • No one cared, and the only people who care now are activists. I appreciate the fact that her family acknowledges her partner and included her in the obituary.

As far as the comments about how the partner will not be able to get Ride's pension - these people are entitlement fools who seem to think that it's "free money" and therefore SOMEONE - anyone - should be allowed to get a piece of it. The PURPOSE of a spouse pension was to protect women who didn't work to raise a family. They would get screwed when the husband died, and because they had no pension of their own, they needed it. The spousal pension became a perk long before it became some kind of "right".

Since gay couples can't have children unless they deliberately do so, there is not the same need. IF a couple chooses to deliberately procreate, they need to accept the responsibility to protect one or both partners. That is true for gay or straight couples. Some companies offer pensions for gay partners. Just like a straight couple, if it was important to them, then they should have taken it into consideration when deciding on which path to follow.

Life is full of choices, and we have to sometimes give something up in order to get something else. But unfortunately, many people do not understand this, and feel like they should be given EVERYTHING they want.
