I have a simple suggestion for all of you folks who want make gun ownership illegal in America. Here are the 3 simple steps you need to take...
1. Get 2/3 of the House to vote to repeal the 2nd amendment
2. Get 2/3 of the Senate to do the same
3. Get 3/4 the states to do so as well
...you do that, & then your fantasyland can go "forward" with guns being banned & violence will be a thing of the past in America.
I'm just trying to help. If you want make gun ownership illegal, have the guts to it constitutionally, rather then trying every back door illegal tactic to achieve your dream. If you had any respect for this nation, you would follow the constitution. You don't, & that's why I'll never respect the left until the day I die.
An adendum to above suggestion: Prohibition did just that! There was no more crime or alcoholism because the government said it was illegal. It's not like a whole government agency or two wasn't established to deal with the aftermath of prohibition or anything.
If you had any respect for this nation, you would follow the constitution.

Apparently Rushdie hasn't heard about Matti Juhani Saari and Pekka-Eric Auvinen of Finland (population slightly over 5 million) or Anders Behring Breivik of Norway (population less than 5 million). So much for the peaceful Scandanavian countries. In the Middle East they recruit the nutcases like this Batman movie killer and strap them into suicide vests. There are kooks everywhere, and the best defense is letting all the sane people carry guns, too.
Rushdie, like most outspoken anti-gun dipshits is protected by them daily. They don't get it. And they all come from places where only the state has guns-which is WHY THEY COME HERE! The citizens aren't afraid of the state when they have guns too! Of course, with the help of the UN, Mr Soetoro and Mrs. Clinton intend to disarm us-which of course will be met with the might of the gun owners in the US-and that is when the state will be again by the people, of the people, and for the people-until then, keep buying ammo-you are going to need it-we all are.

I agree wholeheartedly. Some have made the comments that he was wearing extensive body armor. But body armor only stops the bullet. My Beretta holds 16 bullets including a chambered round and I'm thinking 16 bullets would have left him hurting pretty bad. Makes me want to carry it everywhere I go.
He was thinking body armor works like in the movies - he gets shot and keeps on truckin'. In reality, one armed citizen puts one good shot into the center of his body mass and he's lying on the floor in a lot of pain thinking, "WTF." I watched Costner's "Open Range" last night (for about the tenth time) which has the greatest gunfight Hollywood ever made. There's nothing pretty or delicate about the people getting shot. People fly backward when they get hit and very few of them are functional afterward. Even Costner, the hero, doesn't move after he gets hit in the leg - he spends the rest of the gunfight firing from where he is, hiding behind a water trough. The lesson that movie has for gun control advocates is in the way the citizens of the town eventually realize, "Hey, we have guns, too," and decide to participate. Once the citizenry start to participate it's all over for the bad guys. That's exactly what happened to the James Gang - they rode into a town to rob the bank and the town shot them to shit. Just one armed citizen in that Aurora theatre could have made all the difference.
Exactly! And we'd all be having a VERY different conversation today. Look at the Giffords shooting. I think more would have been shot had those 1 or 2 guys not been packing their side arms.
