i always hated the little kids in my neighborhood who did that when i was growing up... hated them in HS, in college, at work, and now, in my retirement.

The left has been around as long as humans have been around. Their modus operandi always changes. Communism was just another blip in their history.
They will periodically frame the same old arguments in words that they think will sound good and finally, once and for all, convince the benighted, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, gun-totin', Christ-worshipping troglodytes that they are right. Using Christianity or Christian-sounding words is just one of those methods. Talking "responsibility" is another.
Stay vigilant. The one thing that will always be lurking behind their logical-sounding arguments will always be there:
Government force.

I saw a story some years ago about a mafia "scam" to make some money by setting up gas stations that didn't pay all of the New York State gas tax, passed the savings onto the customer and relocated when revenue agents started sniffing around. That blew my mind. Things are surely upside down when you have to go through the mafia to get some relief from a shakedown racket.

That's always my point in debating lefties - debates which turn out very short, as a rule. I never go into policy details, nor going into knee-jerk defense of Republicans.
All of the left's philosophy is antithetical to human nature. Full-blown Communism, of course, much more so than "the third way", that magical blend of socialism and free market, but the latter is still not who we are. So the only way it can ever be implemented is through the use of force. The issue is never the policy details. It is always the use of force that it will ultimately require.
Being against the use of force is the core principle in Libertarianism, which is one reason I've been carrying a Libertarian Party card in my wallet for decades.
I always think thin when I hear about a "socialist libertarian". How in the world do you force people to contribute to their own economic exploitation without violating the non aggression principal?
