I guess the French decided to hide behind another Maginot Line.
Another "triumph" for the Internationale.
On the brink of financial ruin, the French and the Greeks vote for more taxation and more spending; the lure of more "free stuff" from the government was too much to resist. Disaster will follow, the Euro may collapse, followed shoprtly thereafter by Europe.
It makes me wonder what will happen here in November.
Here in November? We either go down a path exactly like France, Spain, Greece, and Italy, but only faster, or we stop the bleeding for a little bit and hope a real Conservative candidate will rise in the next few years.
Absolutely agree. We are ruined unless the debt and spending are brought under control. Europe is lost. I see it at my work every day.
1 Stop adding spending
2 Roll back spending across the board, not just the military
3 Stop printing valueless money
4 Stop ALL foreign aid
5 Get out of the UN, kick them out of NYC, sell or lease the building
Since Romney isn't going to do ANY of that, the country will improve over the Obama Administration, but not as much as it needs. Next time around, the Democratic nominee will be able to point out that Conservative tactics didn't work, and we'll get another liberal puke in the White House.
You might be right. I am very hopeful that Romney also gets a Senate that will be serious about reigning in spending. Naive? One thing to look at in a positive light is a Senate primary in Indiana. Richard Luger (Obama's favorite GOP Senator)is being challenged by a Tea Party backed candidate, the current state treasurer. If Luger is primaried out (e is behind in the polls), then that bodes well for fiscal conservatism. Most people now recognize that too much spending and debt accumulation is unsustainable.
Ha! Luger was primaried out tonight. The Tea Party backed state treasurer won. One more piece of evidence that the electorate is in a very anti-incumbent mood and interested in restoring fiscal sanity in Washington.
If only that can carry through to November.

Austerity may very likely trigger more recession.. Is there anything to the notion that such measures need to be gradually introduced? Otherwise, you'll have backlash like in U.K., where prevailing view is that drastic cuts triggered double-dip, and like flashing says, conservative approaches will be immediately blamed

I just picked up a free copy for the Kindle on my phone. Just so I know what the enemy is up to.
Teeheehee, it was one of the first books I got when I got my Kindle. I was hoping Rules for Radicals was also free, but Alinsky must have been a Capitalist because they want $11.99 for it. I'm not paying $11.99 for something created by a liberal Marxist. It's not the money, it's a matter of principal.
I was going to read Atlas Shrugged again, but they wanted $22 for it. I got my original copy at a thrift store for a dollar, and after reading it twice, gave it to a youngster, trying to save another mind from socialism.
I never read Atlas Shrugged. Everyone keeps telling me I should, but I don't know if I could get into it. I've read The Fountainhead and honestly I had to push myself to finish that one. Anthem I really enjoyed though and would recommend to anyone. It was rather short but a fun read (and free on the kindle!).
Atlas is a slog but worth it.
I played Bioshock to completion.. Does that count?

When you finish the Manifesto, read Lenin's April Theses and Hitler's 25 Points. It all regurgitates Marx but you will understand that both systems (communism and national socialism) were based on the same philosophy.
You guys are killing me, my library wish list grows faster than kudzu! But seriously, while some (whole site, not just these) would be re-runs that could use another look or others I'd never gotten around to and forgotten about, many times you point me in directions I'd never heard or thought of. Just wanted to echo the fact some of us do listen, and to say thanks.
And like Flash said, thank goodness for digital. If this were back in the day, I'd need more than my old day-pack to carry the recommended reading list from the syllabus here at I Hate U. , I'd need one of those John Deere Gators.

The other day, when I downloaded Marx, I also downloaded about 30 other books too. I swear the phone got heavier.
I read the manifesto when I was still in high school. About the same time I read Wealth of Nations and The Two Treatises. So it has been a while. eBooks has made everything so much easier. There are so many books I'd planned on reading for years that I can now get at with ease.
Sidekick had mentioned Bastiat's the Law someplace else. I applaud his taste. That is a fantastic work.
And I seem to remember Flashing Scotsman mentioning reading Mises stuff through the tech. Of course Mises dotorg is a great resource and if you have an app that renders pdf's as ebooks much of it is absolutely free.
Someone should host an intervention for France but who would have the moral authority...? Iceland?
How bout Germany, they have some prior experience there?
