• From what I'm seeing, fraud was rampant, kinda like with our own Democrats, and all in the direction of NO. I was about to renounce my Scottish heritage last night, but now I'll wait and see if they have the balls to force a proper election to be held. If not, you'll see a name change for me.

• I had to look up Gondwanan. I read about it, but I still don't think I understand it very well.

  • There was one big continent, then there was one big earthquake, then there was a bunch of little continents scurrying for cover, and when India, in a panic, slammed into Asia it made the Himalayas, and when Italy, also in a panic, slammed into Europe it made the Alps. Nobody is quite sure what the fuck Antarctica and Australia are up to, but because they're loners they're mighty suspicious. Meanwhile, Africa and South America, broken apart in the very act of coitus, forever maintain their cuddle-ready posture.

    There, a whole semester of geography in one paragraph. I should be a professor. Think of the money I could save the students.

  Sorry mods, the one does not necessarily imply the other. Chances are that an independent Scotland would have gone into the EU anyway, especially considering that the Independence movement was championed by a far-left lefty.

  As for individual liberty -- it WAS a good day for it. Record turnouts for voters, with 100% in places. Many many stories of people who were voting for the first time in their lives. Nearly all of Scotland participated, and they declined the offer.

  I'd say that was a dam good day for liberty.

    Yes, that's the point. Scotland is more left than the UK as a whole, so the departure of Scotland would have meant the departure of a whole bunch of Labor Party votes in Parliament, strengthening the hand of conservatives. Overall that would have been good for the UK, IMO. Tough on the Scots because they would have been almost completely dysfunctional without a conservative influence to keep them rational, but good for the UK as a whole. Like cutting off an infected toe.
