Just came back from dinner. I am so full. So thankful. Pretty day. No cooking. Easy day. Love it.

I cooked for 11.
21 lb Turkey, Sweet Potato Casserole (with brown sugar and pecan topping), Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Sausage Stuffing, and Biscuits.
Then I got to clean up and pack all the leftovers! I didn't sit down to relax till 8pm.
Hang on, smashed 'tatrers & gravy? Really?
Of course gravy!
BTW, I leave the skin on the taters too.
Didn't you know man cannot eat mashed taters without gravy? I think it's against the law!
Unless you fry them into pancakes. Then all is forgiven.
Then, you need either apple sauce or ligonberry syrup.

I am sorry you got stressed out. Next year let someone else do it or do what I did, go out to a nice buffet with the family. I was a bit tipsy with the mimosas, but hey it was nice. :-P

I started telling some of my secrets and my wife told me to stop. I told her that if I didn't pass them along, nobody else will ever make holiday dinners!
One fine day about twenty years ago, my dad invited enough family to his house that one turkey wasn't going to get the job done. Now, mind you, my stepmother was long considered the queen of turkey cooking. She had the big ceramic countertop thing that roasted them to perfection, and she was mighty proud of herself. But it would cook only one.
Instead of putting the second on in the oven, he called me up and said I should bring my Weber Kettle BBQ, he'd provide everything else. I showed up bright and early, and smoked a 22 pounder in the Weber, over a pan of Raspberry Schnapps.
Needless to say, with the two turkeys sitting side by side on the table, my smoked turkey was devoured before the other one was even touched. Doris was infuriated.
"Fine, be that way! From now on, YOU get to cook the turkey every year!"
"No problem. That way I get to eat better turkey."
And as I do every year, my favorite Pumpkin Pie gag for thanksgiving....

What a day! Turkey and ham. Dressing and mashed taters. Green beans and yams. Giblet gravy over everything. Topped off with a big slab of sweet potato pie with whipped cream. Back home watching the Cowgirls get whupped, with a big mug of coffee and a slug of Hot Damn in it.
I hope everyone had as good a day as I did. Family and friends, good food and laughter, now a hot toddy and relaxation. Happy Thanksgiving to all my IHTM friends.
