Sir Salman Rushdie: free speech under threat from ‘religious extremists’: We strongly applaud the man coming out as a champion of free expression. However we don’t know how vital it is to warn of “religious extremists of all stripes”. Last we checked Dan Brown has never had to go into hiding.

Baloney. Books critical of Christianity and Judaism in particular are published in many countries without fatwas issued against the authors.
In addition to the vague statement "criticisms of religions", Rushdie talks about "religious extremists of all stripes". Why does the man who had to go into hiding because of a fatwa placed on his head by Islam act like all religions are doing this in the same measure? His bravery seems to have turned into political correctness. Interestingly enough, he did criticize "moral relativism" which is a criticism of liberal humanism in whatever form.
